May be buying a 1st Gen 4Runner
Currently I am looking at a 89 4Runner. The current owner thinks that a headgasket on the 22RE engine might be blown (215,000 miles), but luckly he has a parts truck with a replacement 22RE (150,000 miles).
So heres the question: Should I have him change the engines before I buy it? (The parts truck would come with the purchase anyways so I could change it later).

Do you want to do it yourself or not and is he going to charge you for the replace?
What is the condition of the parts truck? Can you just rebuild and sell the parts truck or is it bad enough to part out? What is your experiance in machanics? need more info, please.

I have little to no experiance in mechanics, but Im always up for trying things out. Ill have to find out about the parts truck, but from the pics Ive seen, its just a pick-up with no bed, I know that the engine works, but I know nothing about the transmission.
Also, while I would love to try to rebuild the engine, Im not sure if I could.

id have him change the engine, then see if he'll let you keep the one with the blown headgasket and try to rebuild that. but id have the current owner change them so that it will be done right (assuming he knows what hes doing)
