Unhappy Many issues with 97 4runner! HELP!!!

Well, about a month ago I hit 110,000 miles and did a tune up myself (plugs and wires). As soon as started the truck after installing new plugs and wires cyl. 6 started missing. Oh, before I did the plugs and wires I noticed that it would stall out when idoling. I replaced the PVC and the fuel filter. The stalling still occured. I took it to my michanic and he checked everything and cleaned out the fuel injectors. I drove it about a 100 miles and it started miss firing again the next day when I started it up. Now it runs ok, but I am waiting for it to start miss firing once again. Although it RUNS fine, start up is a problem. It sometimes take about 15 seconds to turn over and when it does it is hessitant to do so. PLEASE HELP ME! I think the missfiring is caused by an intermitent coil problem. Cant check it though until it starts missfiring again. Not sure what the starting problem could be. The pressure in my fuel system is stable. any advice?????

You might pull those plugs again and check that they were not damaged during the install (has happened before).
Also test the coil packs and wires to ensure they are within spec as well.

Question

I replaced the plugs. I thought that I might have put them in wrong and messed them up so when I took it in I had him put in new ones. My main concern is the starting problem. Any guesses?

That almost sounds like a broken or corroded wire, but there are a few things to verify first.
I assume you did already clean the throttle body and if not you should do so.
You need to check the MAF, TPS and IAC....any of which could also cause your starting problems.

Well, I changed out my coil today and still the same thing. MISFIRE!!!! It kills me because I cant find what the problem is. I am tempted to take it to the dealer in hopes that they have seen this before but as most the dealership is not where I want to go. I feel like I just wasted $70 on a new coil. I NEED HELP!!!

is it just cylinder 6? and you used toyota oem wires and plugs? did you try installing a new plug in #6?

do you think that there might be debris caught in the threads in #6? might be worth investigating.

What brand of plugs did you put in it? OEM?

Did you replace the wires with OEM as well?

You are not going to believe this. I was up at the shop today after I got the runner to start missfiring. They wanted to see if the injector was working so they listened to the others and then listened to #6. Sure enough no fire. They checked the signal coming from the computer and it was good. So they started poking around and all the sudden FIRE!! Then they stopped and it started to missfire again. To make a long story short they found that the pig tail connection going to the injector was not tight enough. Ordered a new connection and installing it tomorrow. Thanks for your help with everything. If nothing else I learned alot about my runner. Thanks everyone for your input!!

Wow, that is the first time I have ever heard of that happening.
Thanks for the follow up on that.
