Manual Hubs for 98 4Runner
Hello
I am new here so please forgive any "roughness"
I got a 1998 4Runner about two months ago and I am planning to start some discreet modifications.
I think adding manual hubs for the front axle for a start but I am confused....
I have a catalog that shows a Kit (worth $1,185) that seems to be for lifted vehicles and it is available for 98 Runners but another page shows the Hubs for $127.95 /pair and the price list only displays them for 1986 - 1995 4Runners.
Which one do I need? Do I need any at all?
Please gimme a hand here.
Thank you

Welcome.
If you were to do the manual hubs, you would need to get the $1,000 Off Road Solutions kit as that is your only option.
2 other things:
--DO NOT get this kit if you aren't going to be lifting your Runner
--There are many other modifications that should come way before this conversion, especially if your headed down the off-road modification route

What do you mean Darren? do you have any quick and easy suggestions?
yeah I know..... tires, right?
Guys thanks for the welcome. This forum sure seems useful.
By the way, how is the off road up there.... down here is really disapointing.
I lived in Venezuela - South america for many years and off road there is great! I really miss going somewhere wild.
Check out the Toyota I used to own there:
last weekend I went to the Big Cypress Forest reserve and there was not much to do (although I couldn't enter the off-road trails since I MUST have 9" wide tires and I do not have them yet)
I guess I am just starting again...

I like your signature! You're a lottery winner?
Nope, just a little story against "fatalism"
Usually you get something like: "when evereything was good... some disgrace happened" or " It was too good to be true"
It is just a little reminder to the sarcastic myself to lighten up!!
Cheers!

Welcome Kukenan,
First off, I noticed you stated in your first post that you wanted manual hubs for the front axle. Since we have IFS, there is no front axle.
Second, if you plan on doing ALOT of offroading, I think that the smartest thing to do would be to go ahead an do an SAS. Why waste 1200 on manual hubs for a 3rd Gen when you can go ahead and do the SAS for about 2000 and buy some cheap $200 manual hubs. This will be more expensive, but you will not regret it (that is unless you decide off-roading is not for you). This will save you the extra thousand dollars wasted on the hub-conversion. Plus, it will save you from having to spend $1000 on a high-end lift like SAWs and instead spend less on a cheaper leaf-spring lift. One more thing, it will give you an opportunity to install a locker while you've already got the front axle removed.
I dont think that you should do this immediately. First try out your vehicle offroad and see how you like it. Go ahead and lock the rears if you know your gonna stick with it and then lift the rear and do the SAS, Hubs, Locker, & tires at the same time.
