Post Maint. on a 2.7 L Engine

My rig is a 97 2.7 L toyota 4runner, I bought it used about a year ago with 118000. It now has 126xxx some miles, the problem is I don't know whether or not the timing components have been replaced. From what i've heard the 2.7 engine has a timing chain and not a belt...if this is the case should I still replace the chain or do i have some time??? Any help at all would be awesome!! Also, if anyone has a price idea of what this would cost that would be great too!

My mechanic said the same thing that Joe said-if it ain't making noise, it should be OK. I have almost 130,000 miles on my truck and it hasn't been changed yet.

OH ok...so it is a chain...I don't have to worry about it just breaking abruptly like a belt?

Yep, has a chain. No, they aren't prone to outright failures like the belts are. Typically they start getting noisy when things are getting worn.
