Magnaflow too loud

I had a Magnaflow muffler installed today. It's too loud. I bought the 5x8x24 muffler. Part #12286. It's much louder than I expected. Is there a certain tip I can put on the tailpipe to hush it down a little? I bought the bigger muffler hoping it would be somewhat quiet. I would have been OK with it if it had been on a truck, but on the 4Runner I think it's too much. I need it quieter.

Tip won't do anything.

Have a resonator installed.

Resonator will change the sound a bit and tone it down.

It will get quieter with time.

I thought my 5x11x28 oval Magnaflow was loud when I first installed it several months ago. Now it's just loud when I get on it. At idle it's silent.

Give it a couple months. Then figure out if you want to get a bigger muffler.

i'm in the same situation. just put an LC header on, dropped the cat and used an 18" magnaflow. my truck sounds like a damn ricer now. it's fine at idle, but when i'm on the throttle it sounds like a lowered civic with the tin can exhaust. i think it has been getting a bit quieter now though. i hope it gets a lot quieter still.

Any chance you could get a video or good sound clip of that Magnaflow? I have been considering a new muffler for quite some time.

I have the magnaflow on mine as well..Just driving down the road it sounds good..But when you have to get on the throttle or it goes into passing gear it gets LOUD...I bought it used and the orignal buyer put it on..I am going to replce it with something more quiet..

Well , how was it installed? Welded in I assume? I had a 18'? magnaflow on my 92 and it was neat for 2min,,,then i thought it was right crap..Alot of the magnaflows have a sharpness to them and makes it right ricey. I went back to a lifetime toyota exhaust...any exhaust "power" improvements/loss was not noticeable...the exhaust note is particular with some...if you don tlike it change it.

Bunch on here http://pnw4runners.com/exhaust/exhaust.htm
and one guy put the magnaflow on his fj,,,sounds like butt compared to other systems..it has that fart noise to it

Does anyone know if you can get a TRD muffler alone, all I find is the whole system from them. Is borla the company that makes the TRD stuff?

Borla is over priced poo imo.
All of the buzzing and what not sounds can be cured with a simple resonator.

IMO a 4 cyl or V6 without as resonator and a stright through style muffler will always sound like crap. I've never heard one that doesn't have farting or buzzing noises. You need a resonator.
If you run a chambered muffler it tends to cut down these noises.

A resonator is similar to a glass pack muffler (easiest way to explain it). They come in various lenghts and tone down the exhaust.

Your local exhaust shop should be able to set you up with one.

That's Funny...definately don't go with VORTEX I got from Jason B. !!!! It's borderline obnoxious, my girlfriend says! I guess I like the tone more than anything. My neighbor has the Flowmaster 5o series on his TACO and it sounds pretty sweet, too.
