Magna flow muffler let down

HI everyone just got my exhaust done on my truck (1989 V-6)and Iam very disapointed with the sound. Its too quiet. The system consists of 2.25 stainless pipe custom bent from the cat back, the muffler is 4x9x14 oval.I went with this system after reading several posts about how good they sound.I am very disapointed as to how quiet this thing is for a muffler that you can litteraly see through. It loks nice with the mirror finish but I wanted the sound

Sorry to hear about your disappointment on your investment.

Go buy a stainless Supertrapp like the one I have or a Wave Tech Trapp. Then you can tune it for sound or performance and be done with it.

I tried several different kinds of exhaust before settling on the Trapp. I found it to be the best overall for me (daily driver that gets wheeled hard). Plus it's a USFS approved spark arrestor (if that matters in your area).

They do get a lot lowder after break in but they are not overly loud. Break in takes about 200 miles.

The 14" can should be really loud. Any chance that you have a tip on it?

It comes down to what you want. I have a magnaflow system on my 5.0 mustang, and while at idle it is quiet, it screams at WOT. If your just looking for sound go for flowmaster because thats all they are good for. Magnaflow mufflers are better designed and flow better. Sorry you don't like it.

Sounds to me like you bought the wrong one.
See my website in the Exhaust section for the correct part # for the 14" model.

I would not trade my muff for any other, I think it sounds that good.

i love the sound of my magnaflow. i dont know what size i bought but it is pretty loud off the line and it does drone out at highway speeds. at times i do think it may just be a bit too loud for me. i dont think it matters on how magnaflows are installed. i think theyre supposed to work in either directions.

Aren't all of the big-name ones USFS approved? Big meaning Magna, Flowmaster, Borla, TRD, etc.?

Nope. For those to be USFS approved, you must add a spark arrestor.

I agree 100%... My borla system is over 6 years old, has never given me any problems and sounds great! It probably has 90,000 miles or so on it and still sounds good, you cant go wrong with stainless any way you look at it. It cost about twice what the stock system was going for back then when I bought it but by now I know I would be on the 2nd or 3rd muffler by now!

The magnaflows flow either direction.

It will get louder with break in, how loud do you want it, that's a fairly small muffler.

Another thing that will make it a little louder is a bigger tip, or do you have it turned down, that helps too.

If you want it real loud then go with a bullet style muffler
