Question Lubing SAW Balls

OK, here in this thread I had a squeak. I found that it was the ball joint or heim joint on one of my SAW coil overs. (What's the difference between a heim and a ball anyway..?) I lubed it with WD40 and the squeak went away but was back the next morning. I lubed with white lithium grease spray twice but that only lasts about a day or 2. I drove through a mud puddle and that, amazingly, lasted about 10 minutes..!

Any one know what I need to do to the heim or what I can lube it with that will fix the squeak for good.

Thanx

Are you sure the squeek is coming from the SAWs and not the swaybar bushings?

Hi Gadjet,

Yep, I don't have sway bars any more.

It's just the left saw heim, the right one is fine. As soon as I spray the WD or Lithium in it the squeak's gone, but it comes back.... Maybe I should try some kind of oil, I thought of grease but how do I get it in there...

Do you know what metals we are dealing with there, some kind of a stainless or chromoly ball and is the shock body aluminum.. is there any kind of liner..? I'm worried the ball is wearing away the shock body, it sounds like old leaf springs rubbing against each other.

Thanx, nj

Have you thought about contacting Ryan at SAW? I will bet you he will know what materials are used in his product and he may have some suggestions on how to fix your problem.

Tell him Gadget sent you to him for answers.

the clear sticky "super grease" that is used for urethane bushings holds up very well and doesn't wash out as fast.

Ryan from SAW says it sounds like the spherical heim bearings are worn out, part# 56702-001 (bearing) and suggests replacing the heim spacers also part# 56702-002. Any one else changed these..?

Thanx,

Update

After some wheeling on Sunday I was washing the mud off the underside with my trusty pressure washer. I decided to shot at the heim with the pointy stream from the 110bar (approx 1,595 psi) pressure washer figuring if there was anything caught in there it might come out, or at the very least force some of the grease that was around it to go deeper into the joint. I am happy to say that so far there are no more squeaks, let's hope it stays that way.
