Lowering Springs

Is there a 1" lowering spring of comparable quality to that being offered by Performance Products but at a price less than $365/set? I can buy 1" lift springs for 1/3 that price!

There are none that I know of outside of importing some from Japan or custom sets.

I wish I could be of more help, but there aren't too many people on here interested in lowering their trucks. There are a few and hopefully, they'll see your post and be able to help.

Have to agree with the Doc...only thing, the Japan springs, Elford and Shuei are a bit more money plus the shipping. PP has a 15% sale a few times. Japan is the only place I know where they are into lowering their Runners as much as lifting 'em.

I don't really know much about lowering springs, but have you checked Eibach (sp?)?. My friend has a Toyota MR2 that has Eibach springs on it. Totally different vehicle than the 4Runner, but thought I'd mention that anyways.

Eibach makes lowering springs for the FRONT of the Tacos, but nothing for the rear or 4Runners...

Ah ok. Worth a try bringing it up.

What about airbags? Not sure how those are set up, but may be worth looking into.

Lowering Springs

Thanks for your feedback. Gadget (gadgetonline.com) sent me an email indicating that he is working on a suspension performance lowering kit. Otherwise, PP appears to be the only NA vendor.

NOTE: Wife said "no" to an M3, but "yes" to transforming my 4Runner into a sport truck - thus my interest in lowering.

Let us know what Gadget is up to...I remember Tragger or someone into high-end performance mods talked about a killer coil-over set up for the Runner. I remeber it being quite expensive, but definately the way to go for handleing and just doing it right...nothing worse than bottoming out or bouncin' all over from a bogus drop...

If you know for your front and rear springs what uncompressed height and how many pounds you want the springs Eibach will make them for you. I think fronts are $100/pair for SAW replacements.

Saws are 650 lbs and 14".
Stock were quoted once as being 480 lbs and I don't know what height they are.

lowering springs

I went ahead and ordered the PP lowering springs. Although expensive, they should work great with the Bilstein/Addco/Antera Wheels(20")/Toyo tire (295-45-20) upgrades. Thanks for all of your input. TRDTOY

TRDTOY, careful -- there are a lot of people on this forum that make fun of people who lower their 4runner. apparently they dont know what the reason is for lowering an SUV. i am not opposed to it. hope you find what you're looking for.

i didnt know 295-45-20 tires can fit on a 4runner without rubbing. oh yea people here dont like 20" rims. but i think they look good when done well.

good luck fixing up your ride. keep us posted and show us your pics.

I just installed a set of PP 1" lift springs and Bilsteins on my 2000 SR5 2WD. So, I have a complete set of 2WD springs and shocks if you're interested. They have 33,4xx miles on them. Lowering. Just waiting on tires. 255/55/18 Michelin Pilot LTX. My 285/60/18 Scorpion's already rub alittle when turning alot.

295-45-20 tires are .15" or .5% smaller in diameter than the stock 265-70-16 tires, so one would think that they would not rub. Am I missing something here?

Zubaltec reported a rubbing problem on 285-60-18 tires, but these have a diameter of .86" greater than stock. Seems now he is going the other way to 255-55-18 tires.

The key here is the width of the tread 295, 285, etc.
If stock is 265, then they are 30mm and 20mm wider repectively.
The aspect ratio 55, 45, etc. is the height of the sidewall with respect to the width of the tire.
So, your 295/45/20 tires are about:
30.5" tall, 11.5" wide
The 285/60/18 tires are about:
31.5" tall, 11.25" wide
The 255/55/18 tires are about:
29" tall, 10" wide
Stock tires (265/70/16) are about:
30.5" tall, 10.4" wide

To offset the increased tire width, you can get wheels that have a smaller (number) backspacing which moves the lug holes closer to the center of the wheel (Makes the wheel stick out farther).
Personally, I have 255/50/17 tires on my 86 2wd truck (about 4" of lift)
They are about 27" tall and 10" wide. I have them mounted on KMC Stealth wheels, which have the lug pattern centered between the lips of the rims.

Thanks, I guess I assumed that the rubbing was a height not a width problem. If it is a width problem, then the 11.5" tires might not fit absent the right wheel. Guess I better throw them on!!! I've been waiting for the snow to melt here in upstate NY!

Well, your tires aren't too much wider than stock, so they may be fine.
What kind of wheels are you getting?
May want to take a look and see what the measurement is from the back of the lug holes to the inside edge of the tire (assuming they're already mounted) and compare that to the stock wheels. Most of the time the aftermarket wheels will be spaced out correctly to accomodate (sp) the wider tires (mine are).
The only thing you may have to watch for is rubbing on the inside front or back (wheels turned full lock and suspension compressed).
I'd say give them a test run without the radio on
