Question looking for Long Travel 96 4Runner pics

A few months ago i saw some pictures of a Bright Red 96 4Runner 4x4. The front sheet metal had been removed, and a custom long travel suspension had been built. I have searched and searched to find those pictures, and more details on that truck, but have been unable to find anything.

Anyone know where i might find more info on this truck?

Steve

I know the exact Runner you are talking about. It was sitting outside a shop. There was a massive prerunner bar on the front with tube frame around the engine. It seems like it was posted on a weekend because I saved a bunch of the pictures on my home computer. I see if I can read the name of the company on the windshield later.

OMG look how far outboard the wheels are from the body!
I bet that much travel would snap the CVs in stock position on the first jump.

For a more realistic, driveable long travel rig, check out Fear's truck. I'm not sure if he's on the board or not, but do a search here and over on 4x4wire. He's got a really nice, well built rig. Not sure what year it is, but I believe it's an early 3rd gen.

They prolly converted it to a 2wd. If you got over 13in of front travel you have to ditch the 4wd(if you keep the IFS).

I have been looking for Long-Travel kits for my Runner and every kit that provides more than 13in you cann't run the 4wd, because your CVs will be ripped off. Maybe he has them limited or something , just my experiance with long-travel kits.

That 4runner is running much longer axles than stock....hence the wheels 2 ft outside the wheelwells.
The longer the CV axles, the more travel you can get without destroying them.
It is just simple geometry.

With the Total Chaos Long Travel kit your front is 7" wider and the Tundra axle is 3.5" longer than stock

Did anyone notice the 2nd gen in the 19" travel kit has the 4.7 V-8 in it. I had found that truck on the Race-Desert web site in the readers rides, but no info on it except it had a 4.7.
