well after about 1000 miles with my BJ spacers installed i have noticed that i have managed to blow the diff side boots on BOTH CVs. but i still have about 2000 miles before i will be able to get around to replacing them (Montana to Tacoma, tacoma to porland, portland to tacoma, tacoma to stockton) so i was just going to pull both CV and make it a 2wd for a bit, ( better MGP for those road trips) i dont see a problem in doing this but i just want to confim that its ok.

*edit* i am waiting to hear back on buying a set of Warn Preimum locking hubs. so i wanst going to fix the CVs till i got those installed first.

if you have warn hubs like myself, i wouldnt see a problem with it. its rear wheel drive, i would assume it would just push it along like normal... ?

It seems just fine, just make sure you stuff something into the holes in the front diff, to keep out water, dirt, small animals...

I ran my 93 4Runner with no front drive axles for a few weeks, no problem at all. Didn't really notice any increase in mileage though

well there off.... the divers side was was ALOT easier then the passenger.. i'll get new CVs on later.

On the 4x4 trucks the hub is just pressed into the bearing. One of the things the outter joint does is hold the hub assembly together. You can run without the axle shafts but you must keep the out joint torqued down in the hub.

I know of a few people that did not do this and the bearing separated in the hub and wrecked it.

When on the trail, if I blow a CV axle, I just cut the inner boot and yank out the shaft leaving the outer joint in the hub and the inner joint snapped in the diff to prevent the fluid from draining out. Works great. When I need 4x4 I just hit the front locker and I get traction on one of my front tires with the good CV.

Anyway, don't drive around without the outter joint in the hub and the inner joint in the diff. There are plenty of blow CVs out there expecially on TTORA and you should have no problem getting broken joints to do this with. Hell I blew up three CVs weekend before last!!!

why do you want to downgrade your hubs? LOL.

seriously, though, the stock AISIN manual hubs toyota used before 1995 are about the best hubs ever made (thanks in part to the use of cone washers)...and, unless the your 94 4runner is different than the pre-tacoma pickup (pretty sure it is the same) will bolt right on to your truck.

if you have ADD and want to convert to manual, i'd suggest you just go to a junkyard or e-bay and buy a set of stock ASINS. they will prolly run you $50.
