Oh Skrillah, the only downside if you get that other runner is that there will be one less 2.7l runner on the boards but more power to ya (literally 3.4vs2.7)
I know...it'd be a sad thing. I'm not holding my breathe though, that 4runner has to check out good. I've learned too much from all the YT, so I'll be a bit hard to please I think.

Wow man, I forgot how much it really helped the looks. Good job...looks much better!! I think the chrome flares take to much attention away from the actual truck, they just stand out so much.

P.S. check out my most recent thread about that 5spd...didn't check out too well.

DAMN! I'm not sure what happened, but I did my front wheel trim pieces today (only had time for two of the four). One came out perfect, but the one on the driver side came out horrible! I don't know what's different, but when I pulled the tape off the edges, a lot of paint stuck to the tape and pulled up with it (so the very edge of the paint is lifted and you can see a slim sliver of silver under it). Maybe I rushed it too much.... I'll have to redo it...

Two coats of primer
Two coats of paint
Plenty of dry time between each

I let the paint cure for about 10 minutes before removing the tape (on both sides)

Dang, you took alot more prep time and painting time then i did. I just sanded the silver, taped off the area, starting around a 1/4 inch away from the silver part and got the first 2" of paint covered, and then just 1 prime and 3 paint.

If you have a good hand you can just paint that thin strip of silver, that sucks though that one was awesome and the other not so.

Well i was wondering guys why you would prime them first??? they are plastic with a metal coating.. i just did my front grill and i used the paint that is made for plastic, i didnt do any sanding on it.. i would think with the chrome liners that you would do some sort of the same, sand it a little and shoot it.. the paint im using is the Krylon Fusion, it says it bonds to plastic with no sanding involved.. ill tell ya when i get home how it worked out. even get ya'll some pic's.

I wanted to take everything off (trim and running boards) so I could paint everything and not have to deal with tape, newspaper, overspray.... but the very first (and after looking, the ONLY) screw to remove to start taking everything off was rusted and it looks like I'll have to drill it out, it kind of bummed me out so I did what you guys did. Just leave it on and tape it off. I taped it off and then got an exacto knife and cut the tape right where the chrome meets the plastic. I wanted to prime the roughed up chrome to just make the paint stick better (never painted chrome before but reading threads that's what most have done).

tomorrow I'll do the rear trim pieces a little different. I'll paint not only the chrome, but the black plastic as well. It will be a cleaner edge for the tape to come off and with that I hope the paint won't stick to the tape as it did on the front one. When those are done, I'll tape off the both fronts like the back and hit it again with the paint. It wont take much to fix. Just more time to tape off then to paint is all.

Oh... forgot to mention... I knew a guy who rebuilt a 4wheeler right when that Fusion paint came out. He painted the plastic with it, and within several months it was all flaking off in large pieces. Maybe they improved the paint over the years, or what, but just knowing that any plasitic I paint, I get the primer for plastic hoping mine won't do the same.... If someone can prove me wrong, please do. I'm no expert....

i've been thinking about this for a while. I recently purchased front and rear warn bumpers for my rig and will be painting all chrome black. Looks much better. After seeing your rig i must do it now.
