locked up brakes, 99runner 4x4. 3.4l

I took some bad advise and adjusted the throw rod on the brake peddle to the power booster. To get some extra play out of the brake throw.

With that said, I ended up locking up the brakes as the throw was to much and ended up not relieving the pressure in the master cylinder(?). I ended having to drive it for about a quarter mile before I could fix it. At 1 mph
That quarter mile was with all brakes almost locked up, I'd say 90%.

The front end seems ok however rear end was super hot and I could smell axle oil but no leaks detected. As of right now the drums are warped as I'm getting a surging and have drag coming from somewhere. Drums are ordered along with new brake springs.

Should I replace the seals anyways and with the heat should I be worried on any damage to the rear end?

I'm open to anyone with experience in this matter. Thank you.

Seals only time will tell .

were rear disc brakes only a option in those years as my 4runners are all 1st generations.

Just depends just how hot it got Was it glowing red ??

Might not hurt to change the gear oil

You do plan to replace the Shoes and Pads ??

How are the Rotors ??

You didn`t do anything like spray the hot rear end housing with cold water?? or any of the other brake parts.

Rotors seem fine, no brake peddle or steering wheel wobble, yet.

The rear brakes are drums up till 2002 when they changed over to rotors.

I didn't spray anything on the metal just had them cool down via air flow.

But, There is definite signs of warped drums as I get a 1 mile down the road they get hot enough to start to affect the drag and surge the truck at stops.
I had them checked and cant be turned anymore. New drums on the way.

I'm more curious on smelling the axle oil, it may have been brake oil boiling over don't know foresure. I'm going to replace everything in the rear brakes except the wheel cylinders, they are brand new.

Could I have done any damage to the master cylinder? I don't think there are any proportional valves on the truck.

Only unless it got so hot in the drivers seat your backside got burnt.

Brake fluid does not circulate it would have had to get pretty hot to hurt the master cylinder .

I would keep an eye on the wheel cylinders. because of the rubber parts.

Thanks all.

Just put on the new drums and all is well, except I suspect a leak is the axle seal on the drivers side. Going to talk to my neighbor who runs his own shop for quote on new rear bearings and seals.

Cheers.
