Lifter Noise and cold ac pump?
Hey, just wanted to run this by all of you who may know all the answers. I have a 97 4runner, sr5, with the 3.4 and an automatic. I bought the truck with 210K and now it has about 229K. Recently, I changed the oil as per the normal schedule, but this time I used 10w30 instead of 5w30. A friend of mine runs 10w30 in his 02 taco, and I assumed it wouldnt make a huge difference. Now, however, there is a lifter tick. Nothing terrible, but it is noticeable at idle. Has anyone else encountered this, and should I go back to 5w30? I am moving to AZ from Montana soon, so maybe a heavier oil in a hotter climate would work better then, but not now? (its been -5ish for the last week or so)
Also, with this cold snap, there is a noise coming from either my power steering or my AC pump...i am leaning toward AC pump, mostly because that is the one system i havent serviced. It sounds like a hollow wail, goes up and down with RPM, and only does this when the truck is cold...but continues sometimes for 20 or so mins after operating temp has been reached. I have been able to shut the truck off, and turn it on, and it will go way. Again, only during this super cold.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
