Talking Lifted at Last!!! Revo'd too (pics)

I finally did the Revtek lift ($311 from PP) and had 285/75-16 Bridgestone Revos installed ($755 from local dealer).

The main problem with the lift is compressing the springs. I ended up taking the entire strut assembly to a local shop so they could install the spacers ($40 ouch - but cheaper than the hospital). My spring compressor just wasn't up to the task and started looking scary dangerous.

As for the rear spacers, the tire shop put them in for $20. Totally worth it. I'm so happy with the outcome. Let me know what you think!

I don't have an image editor so click 'bigger pic #' to see a larger image.

P.S. - Wish the pictures were better, but they are the best I could get for now.

Rig looks good! How much bigger did you go with the tires (one or two sizes) and much loss of power?

That looks terrific! Any problems getting them balanced? How do they ride? Your truck looks great, I really like the skid plate on the front. Did you use the Tacoma skid?

Nice looking 4Runner!

I went with the OME and 285/75 BFG's. Have you noticed a loss in acceleration/power? My 4Runner is slow on the go now. And, hills on the interstate really slow it down.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on quick and relatively inexpensive mods to help boost the power? Will timing advance help? How much advance? What about the intake? I am driving from MD to CT this weekend. I am afraid my six hour drive may take seven or more.

Didn't mean to jack your thread.

Thanks for all the good compliments, I'm really pleased with the new look.

1. Colemanfu - I went basically two sizes bigger (from approx. 31 inch to approx. 33 inch)

2. Calg3 - so far the tires seem balanced perfectly and they ride at least as good as the Michelin LTX set that I just took off. Went through a big rain storm about an hour ago and they were rock solid.

I got the skidplate from ebay for about $160 (I think, its been a while). It is from a 2002 4Runner Sport.

3. Ken and Bob - thanks for the kudos. Ken, the ride quality doesn't seem any different than stock (but I've only put 100 miles on it).

4. 4peanut - I'm supercharged so I haven't noticed much loss of power. Also, the sport package on mine came with a 4.10 rear and that might be helping a bit. It might be fractionally slower, but still fun.

Intake should help a little 10ish HP if you're lucky with an INJEN (don't go with K&N, heard bad things about em, such as less power, and crap getting into your engine etc.). I got a quote on regearing, which was $1500 for front and back. I think that's way expensive.

Can all you people who are saying that you lost a lot of power with lifts please say which gears you have? I am considering buying a 3rd gen and I'd like to lift it if I do. I would probably get the 4.30s... I believe there are 3 different gear options you could have. Also state whether you have an auto or 5 spd please. Thanks

They were talking about the tires, the lift doesn't do much at all, its the tires that kill you. I haven't even bothered to look at what rear I have but I have 285/75s on tech1s and I'm avging about 15mpg. I'm not going to re-gear til I get a locker so I have a while.

well damn, there goes my reasoning for you to come down to the wrench-a-thon this weekend...

ps, m... you can say you have almost a 34 b/c its actually a 33.8" tire Are you getting any rubbing? You should! Oh, and i LOVE that decal you have on that thing... MAN, that looks GREAT!

Talking

Austin - thanks a million for the 4rocnc avatar! I need to go out in the woods and take some photos. In my defense, I do have a 19 month old who takes a lot of my time :pat:

My friend here has a 99 limited and we are planning a short trip to brown mountain hopefully soon. I'll have more pics then.

No need to shrink the other photos as I'm just trying to learn some more computer stuff. What image editor do you use?

As for rubbing . . .only on FULL lock. The specs from bridgestone say 285/75-16 is a 33 inch tire. By my calculation it is a bit less:

285/25.4 = 11.22 inches * .75 = 8.415 per side wall. 8.415 *2 + 16 = 32.83. I guess bridgestone has a different rounding error than I do.

I've signed up at 4roc.org as 4RunnerFever and will probably just lurk for a while. Did you get your body lift??

Nope...

Mom was scared of me flipping when it was stock, so I figure its not the best idea to ask her for a body lift after I alread lifted it (she doesn't know for sure that I lifted it though...)

And I have no money right now. I'm just going to figure out all my lights and get them all working at the wrench-a-thon. The BL will have to wait. I need to call mr. alt b/c I think they said it won't be ready til the 1st which would be just too late also. Maybe I can get it in time. We shal see...
