Just finished installing my lift. Tundra TRD front coils w/spacers and diff drop, rear OME 890 coils, adjustable panhard bar, extended brake line and Tokico Trekmaster shocks all-around ("SS #7 kit").

Mine was a late-production 2000 model that got the lower springs. It almost looks like a Range Rover with the airbags deflated in this pic:



Here are the after pics:











I took measurements before and after the lift. From the ground to the bottom of the fender flares it measured 34 3/4" front and rear. After the lift it was 37 1/4" front and rear. Bottom of the trailer hitch was 13 1/8" and now it's sitting at 15 5/8". Even 2.5" of lift. We adjusted the toe-in but have not had the camber adjusted yet, so I imagine the front will drop 1/4" to the level that kit is advertised at---in other words, 2.25".

We need to work on getting a wheeling trip scheduled.

I agonized over this lift stuff for a long time. We ran into a couple of issues on the lift install but so far I am happy with the results. The truck does ride better than it did before.

I wanted to let people know about a problem we encountered before someone gets hurt--a friend and I had compressed the Tundra coil on the Tokico strut, installed the top plate and cinched down the top nut and were proceeding to back-off the spring compressors when all of a sudden...BANG...the entire assembly let loose. The stud on top of the strut assembly ejected itself. The threads on both the shock and the nut were stripped bare. Luckily, nobody got hurt and the assembly missed the truck and nothing was damaged. What we found was the front struts were shipped with the wrong nuts...we measured them with a micrometer and they were too large for the shaft of the strut. The nut threads on, but if you pull up and down there is quite a bit of play. When we went to assemble the second strut assembly, we found the stock Toyota top nut fit properly and the rest of the install went to plan. I am just thankful no one got hurt!

haha, I have no interest in running this truck through the Rubicon, although I have done the trail a few times in trucks other than my own. Sign me up for trails like Slickrock, Barney-Riley, etc.

Tires are slightly larger than stock--275/70R16, which measure 31.1 x 10.8" compared to the stock 265/70R16 that are 30.6 x 10.4".

New Tires look very good.

I am biased but White is the best color for a Runner that gets wheeled. The color hides scratches so well. Doesn't show water spots and just generally looks clean more.

Any new stuff to report about how you are liking the lift now that it has been a few weeks?

I couldn't agree more. My last truck was black---never again.

I have zero complaints so far. It rides very similar to stock, except it doesn't bottom-out on medium to large sized bumps. I haven't had it offroad yet, but I expect it will perform much better than before. I am impressed by the tires too, they are much quieter than I was expecting.

What's your schedule like between Thanksgiving and Christmas?

paddlenbike, if you don't mind me asking, why the BFGs? Not that I'm questioning BFGs, I was just curious what was your deciding factor in buying those vs. others? I'd like to get a set of 265/75s soon, but I just can't seem to make up my mind on which brand to go with!


Oh and on a side note, you might want to think about the "mud flap" mod. Check out my profile for pics. Just a suggestion.

I really liked my Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts, but after running them for eight years I simply wanted to try something new. I really wish these were available in a 275/75R16....my current ones look just a little bit too small, but I wasn't willing to take the jump to 285s. These tires have a great reputation for durability, so I think they will continue to please.

I will likely do the mudflap mod soon. Those two lower peices will be removed and painted soon, and that's as good as time as any to put a sharp knife to use. Thanks for the link.

Well those tires look really good. I've never run BFGs, but I know a lot of guys who have and they love them.

I'll keep those in mind when I get ready to get a set.
