lift encounter

hey all,

quick post and back out. just took out my front struts... on the driver side there are 2 rubber hoses that i noticed came off of the clips. look at these pics and help me out. ill be back

I dont know what those hoses do, but, they attach to the diff...(uh maybe diff breather, eh?) then they run up to a little plastic box near the fusebox.

ok so i have another problem... for the landcruiser coils i CAN'T get them to fit... me and a friend tried for 2 hours trying to get them under with a spring compressor. is there a trick im missing?

ok i'm PO'd now at my stupidity... just read something that "I" made note of from another post and didn't read... disconnect the torsion bar...

the hose with the silver cap is deff a diff breather. the other one i have no idea. have you tried to trace it to its source? follow it and see where it goes!

For the rear cruiser coils, yeah, you need to disconnect the swaybar for sure. Let the axle drop all the way down, and slide them in. Also, disconenct the bottom shock mounts as well!

hey guys... still having trouble... do i have to disconnect the brake lines? because i can't let the axle drop all they way down without them bursting.

yes, hence the reason for putting in an extended brake line in the rear. thats why steve's kit is so awesome!!!

Hmm, forgot about that part. The axle should be able to drop down far enough to slide the new coils in. If not, disconnect the panhard bar and the brake line, and you'll do it.

I slid in 9-wrap coils with 2.5" spacers w/o spring compressors, but, that sucked.

when i disconnect the brake line, am i giong to have to bleed the brakes and top of the reservoir? just want to make sure im thinking of everything.

yea, youll have to bleed the brakes, as you are putting air into them
youll also need 2 longer lines. as i believe yours has 2 brake lines instead of my one.

cant wait to do my lift. i think while i have the brakes apart, ill do the fronts with tundra rotors and calipers, and the rear ill put new pads on.

not sure how time and money will permit me to do it tho.

care to write up a guide on the lift? i was thinking about doing a video one. not sure.

i have 2 rear sway bar adjustment brackets, no clue what to do with them. anyone have any experience with these on the sonoran steel lifts?

ok... I have a few issues now that i'm finished installing it all. I noticed my passenger side brake light doesnt come on when i brake, not sure if the brake is working or not... seemed to be fine when i took it for a spin. one of the big brake hoses is REALLY tight so taht could be the problem... i'll take pics tommorow because it's dark out now, not too sure how to fix that tho. also alignment is off, but i knew that was gonna happen. weird clicking sound when i brake on the front driver's side. engine is a lot louder, but i think that's just cus everything is higher up so i can hear it all through the fender.

also the sway bar adjustment brackets, i only have 1 bolt on holding on right now i have no clue how to get the 2nd one on because the connections aren't flat... i tried to clamp it down and shove the bolt through but no cigar. will post pics of that too.

what else... the tires sound different when just rolling, also i think that's because of the alignment.

also the adjustable panhard bar doesn't sit level, is it supposed to?

i'm sure ill find some other weird things i havnt heard before. but ill be getting my alignment tommorow, can't drive this to work right now,haha.

The little one beside the diff breather is a vacumme line. I think its the one that connects to the VSV.

for the rear swaybar, you have to cut the bushing where that bolt head is and then put it on.
the panhard wont be level. it will be at an angle.
get an alignment.

all if the noises you are hearing are most likey superficial. i was super sensative when i first did my lift, and again when i did the body lift. now it all feels normal and good.

is it ok that this is fairly tight? i can't bolt it down to the stock location anymore.

i cut the rubber square out, just can't get the bracket to sit level... i will try again once it's back from the alignment shop.

also gonna have to get my brakes checked, i can't tell what it is but the front driver's side brake makes a weird clicking sound when i brake, ill take the tire off and make sure it's on properly or maybe it's jsut because of the alignment. i'll have to find out.

it feels good to be all finished... i figured out one of my bolts on my tire wasnt completed tight and that was the vibration noise when i was braking.... always double check your friend's job on tires also got the sway bar brackets on there and brake line...

FINALLY!!!!!

Ok, you have many many things installed incorrectly. You need to call me and I am suggesting that this vehicle goes to a professional mechanic to complete/fix the work.

What you have have done has made this vehicle unsafe to drive.

Instructions are included for the two things that are not covered by the Factory Service Manual. Installing a lift is not easy and should only be done by a qualified mechanic.
