lift decisions
i have been thinking about lifting my 4runner for quite some time now. however im having trouble deciding to lift or not. Its got 149000 miles on it now and i dont know if it would be a good idea to put the added strain of larger tires on it or not. I also need new shocks bad so i need to make decision soon. If i dont lift i will probably just put on some stock size mud tires. If i lift it i will probably just run an all terrain tire since they dont weigh as much. Just last week i put on a TJM bumper i got from a friend and now i need held deciding what i should do. If i do lift, i will probably go with the toytec OME kit. The SS kits are nice i just dont want to spend that much.
lift it and run some nitto terra graplers 285/70/17
or
stock and put on some 265/70/17 MT/R?????????????

Just wanting to know what direction others think would be best for my situation. I know lift topics are covered on here all the time but i just need help making up my mind.

I think it boils down to what you want more, looks or functionality. You said you need new shocks anyways so i would go the lift route personally. I have a 2000 and I wish my rear end was sagging so I could better justify the SS#7 kit I am going to buy soon. Good luck with whatever you do, and take pics before and after!

alright well sorry bro
150k is not really significant in my opinion. if everything else is in working order than you're definitely capable of running a lift, even with stock shocks/struts. running stock will be fine if its kept mostly on road but even then i'd recommend you get them changed within 3000 miles. that gives you time to get the cosmetic benefits first and then have a little more time to save up to upgrade the rest. since you have the tjm i'd call and get the 882s up front, it gives more lift and helps counter the weight of the bumper. 890s should be good for the back if you don't load much stuff in the back. if you do then go for 891s. definitely a diff drop, poly bushing kit.
and not all a/t's are lighter than mudders, bfg a/t's outweigh a good few mud terrains

I don't think the weight of the tires has as big an impact on the drivetrain as people think. I think it is the leverage of the bigger tire, and the extra force it takes to turn it (think: big sail boats have big steering wheels because it is easier to exert more leverage on a large wheel) that has the potential to cause problems, but even then you never see people who say "I was just driving down the road, and my CV snapped"
