Lift - confused - Help!

I have a '99 4runner SR5 4x4 that never had a problem. I'm thinking about a 3" Revtek suspension lift. I don't think it'll be as simple as just getting that along. If it IS that simple, let me know and I'll be jumping for joy apparently, some people get the space lift only. I wonder if it'll hold long term.
- first I would like enough clearance for 32~33s (33x12.50x16) would this be enough without a body lift?
- What's the best shocks you all recommend? I was thinking just the back, but if it's recommended, I'll do all 4
- coils - what do you recommend. I was going to do the back only but will do all 4 (has anybody experienced 'sagging' of the rear?
- How bad will this effect my acceleration and gas? Should I change the gear ratio?

- there won't be additional stress on any of my other suspension components, will it? I do very mellow offroading and this will be primarily for looks. Money isn't much of a factor at this time and would like to get some input on a solid setup. Thanks.
P.S. I'm a newbie and this site is awesome!!

Well, I installed the Revtech 3" coil spacer susp. lift with the front diff drop (included in the kit) with Bilstiens shocks/struts front and rear on my 3rd Gen. I have done some crazy things off road and expected this set up to not perform very well, but I have been very happy with it. Do a search for the Revtech install write up, and that will give you an idea of how difficult or easy the install will be. I did the install at home in about 6 hours, including beer You will need basic tools and to rent (or buy) a strut/spring compressor. I followed the dirrections to the tee that were included with the kit, and did a minimal amount of improvising. For the driving habits you have given, I would recomend this set up, and it is really inexpensive too, though you are not conserned with the cost. As always, bigger tires equals less power, but I run 285's (about the same as a 32.8") and noticed a little power loss. I installed the K&N Gen. II intake system and got my power back at around 2k through 3.5k RPM. If Money is no consern, then by all means re-gear. I noticed (before the intake mod.) that I acctually gained fuel mileage when on the highway, but if you try to compinsate for lack of power when accellerating from a stop by flooring it more often, then yes you will have less fuel economy. This is just my experience, hope it helps you in your decision making. Wheel on....

cool. That helps quite a bit. I totally overlooked the intake mod, which I see as a great substitute, at least temporarily. I think compressing the spring might be a pain in the a$$. I'm gonna pay to get everything done. I think re gearing might be a good idea afterall. Have any idea on the ratio? I've 4.5 ish or something around there. Thanks again.

There is a reference chart at 4wheelparts.com if you click on any tires and then click the gear ratio guide for larger tires tab. According to this chart, if you had a gearing of 4.56 on 33'' tires, you would be on the power side of "Daily Driver". Are you sure you already have this gear ratio. Mine is around 3.91 or 4.11 (can't remember right now) and will some day regear to the 4.56.

How much would it cost to regear on a 3rd gen 4runner, automatic?

I too am going to go for 285/75/R16.

I would like to get the revtek, but, Im probably just going to get OME all the way around. Im hoping it will give me enough clearance.

When I put the revtek lift on I ran 33/ 10.50 BFG at's and they rubbed a little. I rubbed really bad at full flex in the rear too. Theres no way you could run 33/12.50 tires with just the 3" revtek, without some massive trimming. Due to rubbing I eventually bought a 2" body lift and have no rubbing at all.

Talking

*sigh* I just called a mechanic and he said it can run up to $1,500 for regearing (both front and back). That sounds really high to me. He also suggested against lifting cuz half the people he does the conversion for, regrets it later on, and recommendeds that i get 31" with a stock suspension, hahaha.
nightsurf: I think the stock stat is 3.9. I would need to go 4.5 ish or maybe 4.56 like you said.I'll call around more for the regearing quotes.

There's a bit of misinformation on this thread.... First, running 33's with 3" of lift does not require "massive trimming" as many of us running 33's (285/75/16's) can attest to. Pounding down the pinch weld and trimming a little bit of plastic works just fine. You lose a bit of oomph, but I wouldn't regear (stock ratio is closer to 4.1 I think for most of the 3rd gens).
