Less restrictive air flow

http://www.4runners.org/articles/airbox/

It says here that by removing the elbow in the stock airbox you can gain a bit o hp. Anyone done this mod? (I think that it is in place of the deck plate ... maybe)?

Yeah the article is by Bob and he has a 1998. Sounds like a 3rd gen thing to me not to mention looks like one. The 3.0 has a similar mod. Its the intake silencer removal mod that ditches all that factory crap that kills HP. I got greedy and wanted power without doing the work. I got a FIPK for $200. Getto yeah, wish I had done the mod that costs much less. As for the 4 cyls. I dont know what to tell yuh.

The air box on my 88 pickup has the elbow in the air box and it looks like it could be cut off for better air flow. I think i might try it out.

I wish I could find it!!!!

I saw a picture of a cool air box mod on here a wile ago for the First gen.
Some body got the idea to switch the battery and the air box. The ony question that I had about that mod was the maf wiring. Did they extend the wires or did they run new ones. But I cannot find it on a search. May have to try it out.

I think the most restrictive part on the 1st and 2nd gens is the stupid vane valve MAF. I like the idea I saw last week about swapping in a Supra MAF. Looks like about 50% more flow area, and supposedly direct bolt in.
