LED Tail lights?
I saw somebody´s post the other day about led's for the dome light and I got to thinking that my tail lights are always burning out--have been pulled over for it actually:pig: So I was thinking of intsalling these--any comments?

The above are white in color--my goal is to avoid the burn out problem....
I'm also thinking of replacing my dome lights with:

For my reverse lights I plan on following some of the other posts about the chrome paint along with a higher wattage bulb.

I've read somewhere that its not the bulb that is causing them to go out, thats it the wiring harness. They changed the wiring harness '99, none of the 99+ owners have complained about their tails going out so often. LED bulbs won't fit in the tailights, you have to modify the tailight to make it fit. I had LED's in my corners before and man were they bright.
**Just read your sig, that you had a '00 Just ignore what I said about the wiring harness.

Check this out... http://www.led.net/datasheets/auto_index/auto_index.htm
I know the LED's use less power, so I suspect that alone might help you out, not to mention that these are usually clusters of led's so if one burns out you still have a few others left. Harness problems are a different story.

Vato Loco & Dajabr Thanks for the help. I'm going to try and modify both the running light, and the reverse lights(do you think leds will be brighter for this application?)

Generally you can expect LED's to be slightly brighter than bulbs if the light is AIMED properly. There will be applications out there that the somewhat more directional LED's will be dimmer on the sides, possibly in this case. There are LED's that do cast light more traditionally but they fall short of the almost totally spherical output of a bulb.

If you are familiar with Mazatlan I live two blocks from the pueblo bonito. I have to say I miss the snow, but I can't complain about the weather--The sun is great!

Vato, it's not the 99+ harness, the '01 & '02 harnesses are the ones you're referring to. Mine went out around 40k but have lasted another 80k after I replaced them. Apparently it's easy to change the harnesses with a little splice here and there.

The old 1156 and 1157 bulbs in this kind of application could last 10-15 years...

To get more light out of the backup lights...
They have higher output bulbs that you can get, but on top of that if you get some reflective paint and spray it inside the housings. It will double the output of the lights, and with the higher output (even ones with bluish tints to them) it will look like daytime behind your truck. If you really want to see behind you, sometimes they are handy when camping and stuff. I mounted some el-chepo lights on my rack.
