HI, I'm looking to find out what the flash rate is on a 1999+ 4Rrunner Security Light. I've installed the 99+ bezel that has a security light and I have it wired up to turn on when the key is pull out. I have it flashing a about 100 flashes per minute and I know the 99+ 4Runner are about 40 - 60?

I would appreciate if someone can take a "minute" to help me out.

What is it that you are looking to do?

I can measure the duty cycle and frequency later tonight to get you the specifics if you're trying to match the factory appearance, but assuming that the timer works on a cap. charge circuit, you'll likely need to add a resistor in series somewhere to slow down the flash rate. I have no idea what the actual circuit looks like...

I have a 98 4Runner and I installed the 99+ 4Runner Controls (Defog, ECT, Rear Window Switch) The 99 bezel has an LED Security light, which I managed to get to work. My 4Runner doesn't have any security system and is not prewired for this. I've decided to activate the security light so it looks like there is a security system when I take the key out. I have the light flashing to fast. I want to know what the Flash Rate is on the stock security light, so I can adjust mine to look OEM.

mine flashes at about 1.5 sec per and stays on for about .5 sec.

Doubt any thief will notice the difference.

Could you go into detail of how you wired this up?

A Stock looking flashing LED might give a thief second thoughts as oppossed to an aftermarket LED mounted on the center console.

Just found out it's about 30 long flashes per minute. The Capacitor will regulate the flash rate. You can alternatively have another LED That flashes in place of the capacitor, which will force the Stock LED to flash. In the 99+ 4Runner the flashing is controlled elsewhere.

lol, big negative on replacing a capacitor with a diode...

Definetely a big Negative using a diode for that purpose but it does work.

That's how I tested it out in the first place, then used the capacitor for the permanent solution. Now that I know the flash rate is 30 per minute, I will have to change the capacitor again. dang !

or you could wire a potentiometer and set your own flash rate

you can use a new capacitor or add in a series resistor - either will alter the time constant
