You can always go to an automotive leather place. They will usually put leather on almost anything. Even your door panels if you want it.
They usually cost around $1200 to put full leather on 4runner's that arent' available in leather. Maybe for a regular cab truck it'll be around $600?

Pull a couple of leather front seats from a 2nd gen 4Runner. Seems like a while back there was a guy in Houston trying to sell a couple in the "for sale" section.

Assuming your buddy's truck is a Tacoma....
The overall bolt pattern for bench and bucket seats for Tacomas of the same generation is identical. The single bench doesn't use all the 8 bolt holes the buckets (separate and 60/40's) use. In regular cabs with benches, the additional holes are either (a) pre-drilled and plugged or (b) pre-molded into the floor pan (and only need to be drilled / punched out). To swap compatible same-generation Taco seats into his regular cab is just a matter of opening up the additional holes and bolting the buckets right in.

Oh, one other note about swapping Taco / pickup seats...
There may be height differences among the different types of pickup seats - even in the same model year. I've seen reports that the 60/40's sit up to 1" higher than the sport buckets, as well as reports that the buckets are noticeably lower than the corresponding single bench seat. The comments / reports I've seen have been scattered and fragmentary, so I can't go so far as to claim the height differential applies across all years.

I took the frames of my original seats to a friend, with the leather material and had her build me seat foams, seat padding, and upholster the front seats for 300 total, including labor and materials.... I know its a "good buddy deal" but I would check options on prices before spending a bunch of money.
