Question Last CB-related Question for Me!

First of all, I will never ever waste hard-earned money (or dirty money for that matter lol ) on a magnetic mounted antenna. It was on my recently sanded and re-painted roof for only 6 hours or so and it's left 3 ring marks already. Grr...now I have power polish them out.

Tomorrow I am going back to CB City and getting a properly mounted & removable one.

Anyhow, on to my question. I have a CB that support channel 19 weather channel. Does anyone actually use this for weather reports and is it worth getting an antenna with this functionality? I tried channel 19 today and it seems to be truckers, no weather reports or anything?

If this is mostly useless, I'll get a regular CB antenna if it's cheaper.

Al, there is no weather reports on the CB band, expect for fellow CB'ers giving their own variations.

You have to have a CB radio that supports the weather band that is for your country.

I'm not sure of the frequency, but I have a small portable Radio Shack unit that is just for weather only.

If your CB supports it, it might be cool to listen in every once in awhile
I can't remember if the glass ones like the Firestik work or not.
It might take a base loaded one to work with the weather.

You might also check out Jim's CB install he just had done and see where his antenna was put.
Very easy to get to and unscrew.
For now Jim has to climb on his thresh hold on his door to get to it
Let's just say we're talking him into getting some sliderz as that will also allow him to stand on them with his door shut to get to the roof to take his antenna off for the night.

That is a bummer your antenna did that.
That is one reason I mentioned last week I don't care for mag mounts.

Ah, I see...I probably misunderstood and thought my CB receives weather channels. It's that mini-mobile one from Radio Shack.

I will get a regular CB antenna tomorrow then. Thx for the info. The only problem I see is getting the coax through the firewall. There is about zero room left, I might have to drill a new one.

Can you snake it through where your speedo cable goes?
No wait, you probably don't have a cable since yours is electronic.

There should be about 3 to 4 gromments on your firewall.

I'm pretty sure I could only see 2 and both were right full of wires. I'm going to have to take a better look this week and see what I've got to work with. Slim cables wouldn't be too bad to squeeze through but the coax is obviously thick.

I'll look for the other firewall holes.

Cobra and think a couple of others make a CB with the four weather channels built in. There is a switch to change from CB to weather. They use the same antennae. I used one for a while and they are OK.

Thx peterbilt. Sounds pretty good, wish I had a CB that came with the weatherbands to try that out, I mistakenly thought mine had it.

By the way....channel 19, IS the truckers channel. When on the road, monitor that one and you'll know exactly where all the "Bears" are. You'll also know about any traffic back-ups ahead of you.

Thx Redtoy!

I've read up on all my 10-code and CB 'bear' lingo now so I'll hang on that channel for my road trip for sure.

I purchased my permanent mount with antenna and cable and will be setting it up tonight. I'll take pics if possible (have to borrow the digi-cam).

The radio will just use the regular antenna and being a Canadian model it will connect with the Environment Canada weather services.
