the napa gold filter 1516 fits fine theres a hose above the filter thats kinda in the way so a bigger filter may not work i have some pics of new filter compared to the old i can post up if needed.... also doing a oil change sucks more and more every time i change it

Random, but my girlfriend's 2001 Saturn SC2 uses the same filter as ours, looks like I'll upgrade her to the 1516 also, thanks for the info!

I'd be worried about the bypass valve difference. That Ford filter will filter less oil than the Toyota specific filter. What's the use of having a filter if the oil isn't flowing through it? And if you're worried about clogging the filter, you're waiting WAY too long between changes.

That doesn't look like a trade-off I'd make on a vehicle I was planning on putting 250k on.

Let me know if you're in need of a Yota transfer case, solid front axle, 22R motor, or rear axleshafts. I promise all proceeds will be directed back into the local 4x4 economy (Ok... Marlin may get some of the money) .

You have a point, but in this case the bypass valve pressure is the same for either filter. When I first looked in to this (see my old thread a few up^ ), me and the gentleman at NAPA cross referenced everything in thier big oil filter book, and they were the same. I can't remeber what the rating was now, though...

I just changed the oil in my 4.7L Tundra on Saturday and the 3.0L ford taurus filter fits great, no leaks, no problems.

Napa has a sale on their oil filters today only, I got 4 of the Napa Gold 1516 for $12.48 or $3.12 each. The guy said they only have this sale twice a year and for one day only. Sorry I couldn't give more notice about it but there's still a few hours left before they close.

Oops, maybe that was just a regional thing. Oh well be sure to read the fine print, sale hours may vary, offer void in some states.

Pardon my dumb on this one, but can you just pull the dipstick to see how dirty the oil is?

I know the place I'm having my inpsection done (i bought the trukc out of state, where they don't do inspections) is probably going to give me a big "WTF" look when I hand them a filter that's bigger than the old one, but they're a very good local shop. I trust them a lot further than I can throw them.

In fact, I called to schedule the appt and asked if they'd also lube the zerks and shafts, JR's response was "we do that anyway!". This is why I like them... they think of stuff before I do.

Full mobile 1 synthetic + napagold FIL1516, Oil is in, zerks are lubed...

I fired it up and immediately noticed that there was less engine noise, and it just felt smoother. I guess thats the M1. Time will tell with the filter.

Yeah I just happen to have a 95 3.0 Taurus. It's nice to be able to buy the same filter for both.

I tried the longer taurus filter yesterday and it wouldn't fit. There is an end of a bolt that sticks out and keeps the filter from lining up. The bolt looks to be on a mount for the diff. Oh well.

Try the OEM filter for the 4.0 or 4.7, a hair larger but not much.... but it must be OEM as all aftermarket filters, that I have seen, are the same size as the 3.4 filter.

Sorry if I come off too pessimestic, but how much better are these bigger filters? As a previous poster stated, the Toyota OEM filters do the job fine. I'm just wondering what the benefits are from using these Ford filters. I can see how the Amsoil filter relocation kit will come in handy, but the Ford/NAPA filters, I don't see a reasoning for. Ok, so it's got 70% more filtering media, but does that mean 70% better filtering? If your filter starts to get clogged up, maybe that'll be a plus, but rarely do any of us enthusiasts go longer than is recommended for oil changes.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as our engines keep on truckin', I'll use OEM products.

Bigger filter of same build design will filter better... Now if you use a really good OEM size and a crappy ford size then no you probably wont see any gains...

I will have some visual data from OEM filter to Amsoil/Wix setup, about 200 miles to go..
