Killed the Alternator and then some,
After mudding around Houston tonight and the night before, and the night before that my Alternator started to whine. Then when I shut the truck off (1994 4Runner SR5.. later that evening at the local mudhole I went to start it back up and it was dead.
Jumped it, got it running and started to pull a buddys dead toyota truck out to the main road. On the way out, Rear ABS light popped on... Lights started to go very dim down the road a bit, then The truck finally died. Alt Is putting out like 9 volts... cleaned it all off... still putting out like 5 volts. Its DEAD, 150,000 hard miles on the original alternator.. Time for a new one.
As for the REAR ABS... not sure, perhaps the load sensor is all mudded up, or maybe it needs to be reset, or maybe its electrical related? who knows, Just felt like ranting and I had a blast out in the woods. Going to go back out late tomorrow if I can get an Alternator on in time!

I severed an ABS sensor line while running a rocky wash once. Toyota stupidly ran it along the bottom of the rear axle on the left side of the 3rd gens. I'd check to see that the wiring is in tact and clean up/dry off any dirty connections.

I'd bet it's triggered to come on when your alternator fails. Fix that first and see if it doesn't take car of your problems. You drive a 2nd gen or 3rd?
