Kill switch

Hey guys, i need to put a kill switch on my truck soon, alot of cars at my work have been getting stolen. Should i make the switch kill the fuel pump or power to the whole truck? or is there other methods too?

You didn't mention what year your rig is, but one sure fire way is to pull the EFI fuse or wire a switch in that circuit. I'm sure there are other ways that won't reset the ECU.

i'd kill the ignition wire. Less amps going through the dash. After my 4runner was stolen I was considering this too. Let us know how it goes!

I put toggle switches on my Honda's.Between the main relay and the fuel pump. The ECU is the "electronic control unit"or "engine control unit"or "the computor that controls the engine outputs"
I haven't done my runner ,yet.

It's not bad to reset the ECU. The (minor) concern is that the ECU "learns" from various inputs while you drive and that it starts from scratch after you reset it. I've never had any problems after resetting mine, which usually is about once per 6 months when I have to clean my Master Airflow Sensor (MAF) after it gets contaminated from the oil in my Amsoil oiled air filter (which cause the Check Engine Light, CEL, to come on).

Now that I've started overloading you with acronyms, are you sorry you asked?

most people put a switch on the starter, this site: http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp has a lot of info about starter interupts, if you dont have a car alarm than you will need to do the passive starter interupt.

I'm going to have a "kill switch" installed in my 4runner this week. It's not actually a switch, but to start the car, you have to pull the headlamp-controller back (highbeam position) as you turn the key. Once the car has started, let go of the headlamp-controller (normal position) and off you go. It's a good theft deterrent cuz it's kinda hard to figure it out.

p.s...there are also other options instead of using the highbeam, you can also use things like the cigarette lighter has to be pushed in to start the car.

I took it to a car alarm/security place and they charged me $50 to have that "special kill switch" put on. Since I'm electrically-challenged, I thought it was worth it to have a professional install it.

I vote for the fuel pump relay since that can't be defeated;no power,no gas.

We just pull the EFI fuse on our 12-second Accord EX. We don't want anyone stealing that bad boy.
