In a 1996, you might be able to open it with another key, pop the hood, and disconnect the battery...give it 10 minutes or so, and hook it all back up, and live happy.
Disclaimer: This works on 95 and older Mazda's Fords, and Chevy's....I dont know about on your 96, or on a toyota at all....

okay, i am getting AAA to come out and break in.
So wait... if I disconnect the power long enough, will the keyless entry not work?

Yes, at least to the extent of my experiment. The brain unit forgets all after a given period of time. When I was looking at my truck at the dealer, the battery had been dead for a couple of weeks and for some reason the keyless would no longer work, haha, so the stupid folks there threw out the remote and just sold it to me with the key. So I found out after I bought it and they insisted that it had no alarm unit installed ( it's there and under the seat, just OFF at the moment)

So the cops made a good point..
They have my ID, so they know where I live, and they have the keys and remote... If I get a new remote on ebay and reprogram it, will the old remote work still so they can open the truck?!!?

being reprogrammed I think it resets the actual computer, however they still have your keys so you are still up the creek.
Id put somewhere safe, lift it or remove the rear axle or something. |

Even if the remote doesn't work, wouldn't the key still unlock and start it?

Do they also have your house keys, if so you'd better get the locks changed or rekeyed ASAP.

SC,
i remember when my darn alarm fob would not work, so all i had to do is to unlock my 4runner with the master key and the alarm would not go off. i just ended up unplugging that POS. it should be under the driver's seat. look at my rs3000 writeup bob |

Did you look in your truck to make sure anything is missing? If they had your alarm remote they could have easily found your truck. I would check to make sure. Especially the garage door opener, since even if you rekey your house the garage door opener would still work.

Can you not just press the reset button below the seat and not reprogram it? If you don't reprogram it then it wont set up. Next I would replace the ignition switch as the theives have your other sets.

Do I have to take my truck to toyota to do the locks or can I go to any locksmith?
I've got a remote from ebay on the way...

Dealer should be able to cut you a new key if you present them with a Vin # as it should be under that information.
And then worry about changing the locks for your house and etc.

OKay, the locksmith took about 30 seconds to break into the truck, and lo and behold I found my spare key underneath the seat... haha. Best place to keep your spare key -- INSIDE the truck. :/
Called Toyota, gonna get new keys made... got a remote on the way. Still dont know how they change out the locks... As for my pants being stolen... uhmm... well, I was at this HUGE gay festival, and everyone was making sweet love to eatchother. I forgot where i left my pants, and some wise ass stole them. Last time im going there.

GODDAMNIT!!!
So, I looked on the manual how to disengage the brain unit. Basically erase it of any remotes. I can't do that because one I put the neg terminal on, it just beeps to ลลลล, even if I have the master key (that I found) in the ignition in the ON position. So then I said, screw this, and unplugged all the connections in the front of the brain. Wont let me start the car!! WTF!?! This is pissing me off . How do I disengage this thing when its in automatic alarm mode?

my 96 alarm was under the dash, under the panel that covers below the steering column, you might be able to take it out, it took ,me 5 mins to remove it. it was in a jumper harness... as far as keys, you might rekey the ignition, thats like 60 bucks for a new ignition switch and key and will make sure that they cant steal the car.

I imagine Bob would rather tell him via PM. Alarm disarming techniques aren't something you generally like to publish in the public.

FWIW, the alarm should turn off by itself after a few minutes...at least mine does. From there, reprogram it.
