Which keyless entry remote do I purchase if I don't have an original?
I just bought a 2000 4Runner Limited (will post more about it soon) that didn't come with a keyless entry remote. The previous owner said it has keyless entry, but he lost the remote snowboarding. I did quite a bit of searching and everything I read says to get one with the same FCC ID as your original, but I don't have the original to compare. What should I do? I'd like to grab one off eBay.
Also, if I have keyless entry, does that mean I have the alarm system? if not, if I have the security light does that mean I have the alarm system?

If you have the toyota security light then you have the keyless entry system. Another way to tell is to see if your driver and passenger side windows have the security system decal on it.. The security system is the VIP rs3000.. I have a brand new remote that I am selling if you are interested. $64 with shipping included... Brand new in factory packaging.. I paid $86 at the dealer 2 months ago before a deer decided to dart out in front of me.. Any more questions, just ask..

I thought the '99+ 4Runners have the RS3200? I appreciate the offer, but I'm poor. eBay for me!
Thanks for the link Ninja. I'm just concerned because people always say to get a remote with the same FCC ID as your stock ones.

Damn, looks like I have the Dealer/Port type, since I have the "Security" LED on the dash. No remote rear window roll-down for me

Ok, now I'm a bit confused. Here's what Nicole at OriginalKeyless said:
I have an LED on my dash, next to my passenger seat belt indicator, but it just says Security. Is this different than what she's talking about?
Joey,
If you have a spot on your dashboard with a rectangle that has a RED LED light and the words "TOYOTA SECURITY" in it - you have the DEALER/PORT installed type.
If not, you have the FACTORY installed type.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!

Maybe a few of you with '99+ 4Runner's could tell me if you have what Nicole described or what I described, then whether you have the three button or four button remote?

Thanks man. I also received a reply from Nicole again, and I do, in fact, have the RS3200. I wonder which security system is better, as they both seem quite different.
