Keyless Entry Chirp Question

I have been trying to reprogram a new remote for my alarm and somehow in the process, I think I turned off the chirp when I press the lock button on the remote. When I unlock, the chirp works. I have searched and the only threads I can find involve unplugging the harness to turn the chirp off.

Any ideas as to what I did so I can reverse this? I like the chirp so I can hear that the 4runner is locked.

My '98 4runner utilizes the inconsistent chirping method of lock/unlock notification. It has a mind of it's own, sometimes it will chirp sometimes not, I guess it depends on its mood!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, maybe someone will chime in and straighten us both out.

For my '97, the chirp is selectable as ON or OFF (e.g. chirps for lock/unlock or no chirps for lock/unlock). That said, it has gotten to where it works erratically. Sometimes it chirps, sometimes it doesn't.

Here is a link for programming instructions for the RS3000 alarm. Kinda doubt the newer models program the same but you can give it a shot.

Wow...good to know I'm not the only one with an inconsistent alarm. I have a 97 4Runner, and my alarm definitely has a mind of its own! Sometimes it will go for days without chirping on both lock and unlock, then all of a sudden it starts chirping perfectly at all times for awhile. One time, the alarm actually activated while I was driving down the road! It was hilarious. Sometimes it's pretty annoying, but I've gotten used to it now.
