Kansas Rocks

Here is some info posted on the KC4WDA egroup. THought I would pass it on.

Friends,

As you have all heard for the past year and a half, the Kansas City 4WD Association, Inc, and KANROCKS Recreation Association have been working on an RTP Grant to develop a Multi Use Off Road Park.

We found a nice piece of land (120 acres), bought it and then was unable to gain the proper conditional use permit to develop the park. We ended up having to sell it and start the whole process over. We looked in several counties and decided to focus our efforts in Bourbon County because of its topography and the fact they don’t have county wide zoning. We found 80 acres that consisted of one big ravine, made an offer on it and had it bought out from under us by the neighbor. We looked at many properties that were for sell and many that weren’t, talking with the owners and offering above market value. We just couldn’t seem to get the right formula put together to get land. We finally found a family that heard of what we were doing, but still wasn’t interested in selling. Instead we started talking about a long term lease.

We have finally gained land for our park. It is a 15 year lease with first right of refusal to purchase if the land owners ever decide to sell. It encompasses 240 acres of draws, hills, ravines, creeks, and woods. There is nothing further that needs to be done such as permits, etc in the process except to develop the park. We will be scheduling work days to layout and make trails and set facilities, parking lot etc..

We will need help developing the park and the trail system and would like to extend an invitation to all clubs to be involved. As soon as we get our insurance in place, everything is a go. You can check out 2 different web sites for directions and dates for workdays. www.KC4WDA.com and www.ksrockspark.com.

The park will be known as the Kansas Rocks Recreation Park and is a usage fee park open to the public. It will cater to 4WD’s, mountain bikes and hikers. There are no provisions for motorcycles, quads, or ATV’s. The fees are $5 per day for hikers and bikers and $10 per day per 4WD vehicle. There will also be an annual access pass for $50. As of now, there will NOT be any camping, but it is on the books for the future.

Please watch our site for more information and come on out and help. The more people we can get there, the quicker we can get the park opened for all of us to have a new place to enjoy our outdoor recreation. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

David Killion

President- Kansas City 4WD Association, Inc.

President- KANROCKS Recreation Association.

Tomus1000, we really need something like this in our area since there is hardly anywhere to go legally.

I can't even imagine how much fun it would be to develop a park like that.
