Just measured '99 with Rear Diff Locker

Yep! The '99 4Runner really does stand one inch taller than my 2000. Just measured one on a car lot, out of curiosity. And get this, it also has a factory Rear Diff Locker. Since a lot of folks in this forum talk about the '99 taller springs as well as the virtues of the eLocker, I thought I would post where I saw this rare Runner, so anyone interested could check it out. It is on the used car lot at Toyota of Colorado Springs. (Phone: 719.329.5513) Please note that I am in no way connected to this dealorship. This post is just a service to my friends in this forum.

Ah, but did it have a manual transmission as well? Those are the ones that are the hardest to find.

It's a Limited, so its has auto. You are right, in my opinion. Manual would made this Runner the best of all possible stock worlds.

Not all '99s had the taller coils;my mom's '99 limited sits lower than mine and some of the '00 models like the Highlander had the taller coils but they were discontinued on the later 2000 models.

I just bought my first Yota this September past! I love it!!! I got a 99 green 4Runner for $8,400 with 128k miles on it......

.....however this is my question....how do i know if it is a "highlander"? What is so special about he "Highlander"....and from what i have read so far they only made it in 1999?

The highlander has the hood scoop, bigger brakes, and some other options that are also on the limiteds. I have a 2000 4runner highlander with the 5 speed / 4wd but not the locker. It looks taller to me than other 4runners. If I knew how high a 4runner with larger springs is, I'd measure mine and compare.

They were called Highlanders in '99-'00 and then was referred to as the sport package in '01 and then finally a properly badged Sport Edition in '02.
