Just bought a Tacoma

It's a 95 with the 2.7 with 166k on it. One of our snow plow trucks hit the driver side at a slow speed a couple years ago and a couple of weeks ago it was in another slow speed accident that messed up the front fender and the rear pass. side of the bed. I am buying new fenders, bed, maybe a new grill and bumper but they look ok. I bought this as mainly a little work truck for around the house or just a spare vehicle. It runs awesome but needs some cleaning and tlc. I will be lifting it 2.5" and puting some bigger wheels and gears too, gears probably next year. Oh yeah, I only paid $200 for it.

$200? That's a steal! Is it registered/insured/otherwise street legal?

how did you STEAL that for $200?! I heard that's a desirable year for the tacoma too! looks good, and easy to justify modding that little thing to high heaven! congrats

Oh yeah, clean title and everything. I drove it home last night. I talked to her about it the other day and she was waiting to hear from the insurance company to see if they were going to total it and they didn't. It also has new tires/brakes/battery.

I just called the Toyota recycler and they want $100 each for the fenders, which are already white so that's fine but they want $1,500 for the bed. Is that a normal price for a bed? I was thinking around $500-$700 but maybe I was off.

man, if i were you i would not pay 1,500 for a bed. if you do, then you should have just bought a clean tacoma for what you would pay to fix it.

if i were you i would see what a body shop could do as far as pulling it out, and then spray a rhino liner in the bed. it will look 100x better with that. fix the headlights and a cheap fender and your good. call it a day.

I'm picking up the frontend parts tomorrow and will be keeping my eye out for a bed for less money. I haven't seen any clean Tacomas for the $2000 total (including purchase price of the truck) it will cost to fix this one. I think the body shop would be more than $1,500.
I'm not looking to spend a whole lot and the bed isn't a priority right now that can wait. I have extra corner lights for the front too and he bumper and grill are ok so there's some money saved. I'm going to pull the old fenders today after work and deep clean the interior. I might try to pull the passenger side of the bed out so I can atleast close the tailgate.

Seriously, that is a great deal. That would be a FUN truck to own. And about the bed, I would just try your best to pound it out the best you can, paint it and not worry about it. It doesn't look that bad. Plus, it's a truck--you're supposed to have some battle scars!

Start over? WTF? A couple hundred dollars in fenders/lights is starting over?

lol its not as easy as it looks...nothing is...seems his cab is pushed in... might be some frame work...but prolly just some tugs to get the cab straight, new box sides...and looks like its bent pretty nicely...but again...trail rig it

Nothing on the frame was touched. The only damage to the cab is right behind the driverside door. The bed and the dr side fender are the worse damaged.

Buy a dent puller and work a section at a time on the bed. Then learn Bondo 101. Seriously - it can't get any worse than what it is now and you are supposed to buy tools anytime you save money - that way you have an investment in tools that you keep forever. Oh yeah - I'd go flatbed before I ever paid that much for a stock bed.

The other side is messed up too so I think I'll wait and watch Craigslist. It doesn't have to be white as I can paint but it would be nice to throw another on there and be done. I though about a flatbed but it wouldn't really be practical for me.
