junkyard scrounging

I spent today digging through junkyards for some junk I wanted. I found some good stuff cheap.

1) Air conditioning compressor, Nippon Denso Toyota stock including bolt up bracket for my motor and complete hoses to firewall and radiator heat exchanger. $70 from A J Salvage in Colorado Springs. (My favorite junkyard.) It will soon be a kick ass and cheap on board air source capable of seating tire beads, airing up to highway pressure and running air tools in a hurry.

2) Aisin manual hub. $20 also from the awesome guy at A J Salvage. Includes all hardware needed to bolt on except gaskets.

3) Fuel tank from Geo Tracker, 13 gallon or so, including sending unit, EFI pump, skid plate, complete filler neck, cap, hoses, wires, hardware, etc. $25!!!

I also got some cheap yellow marker lights that will become fender turn signal repeaters. $4 for the pair at Auto Zone.

I got a new CB antenna mount to relocate my CB antenna. The radio will go from above the instruments to the celing behind the rear view mirror. That will unblock the windshield defroster so I can see out better in the cold winter conditions. The antenna will still be on the front bumper but will free up some room for driving/Offroad lights in the near future.

I'm excited to get these projects going. Weather permitting, i'll have most of it done before Sunday's trail run.

I love junkyards! This was my favorite one when I lived in PA. I haven't been to one out in Cali.

What are you doing with that Geo Tracker gas tank? Aux tank or you got something up your sleve? If so, details?

Yep, it will become an aux tank where the spare tire is now.

Wow. That's awesome! I'm thinking abot adding some side markers too, so please let us know how it goes.
I wish I could find a junkyard around here. I've called up every junkyard in the phone book (around 25) and nobody has any 4Runners. Those thing are hard to find! I even called up some 2-1/2 hours from here. Anybody know of any junkyards in NC?

Have fun all.
