ISR Mod... a week later, 4Runner woke up.
Last week I grabbed some 2.5" exhaust pipe and started on the ISR mod. I cut the pipe to size and expanded the ends so as to properly fit in place of the silencer. While manufacturing the pipe, I disconnected the battery in order to clear the STFT and LTFT tables from the ECU.
Once finished, I started the truck and ran miles upon miles. The engine seemed to be more responsive but I couldn't tell conclusively. I figured that the performance gain was small and the perception of improved performance was nothing more than a placebo effect brought on by the sound that resulted from the mod.
Today, as a matter of fact, I got in the truck and I noticed that the throttle was much more responsive. Part throttle, about 1/4 open yielded much more power than ever before... again, I have no data to support the above statements but I don't care. I am in love with this truck and thanks to this mod I feel as though I have gained some more HPs. If i were to speculate, it seems that it took the ECU a few days to accumulate enough data to properly adjust it's STFT and LTFT. I wish I would have recorded these values previous to the mod but, again, at this point I don't care. What I do care about is the fact that now THIS THING IS A ROCKET!
So what's the down side? Like many here, the modding fever has begun... wait, that's not really a down side! Happy modding every one.
P.S. I have a 5" deckplate mod and the ISR mod. This does yield quite a lot of sound. The reverberation that results from 1/2 to WOT is very noticeable and I know that some individuals will not enjoy the sound at all. I, however, love it! I no longer have to look at the TACH to know the engine speed.
