I decided out of the blue to just go ahead and do this mod after trying to change my spark plugs. I had never really looked at my whole intake system, but to change my spark plugs I had to remove 2 big plastic boxes off of my intake tube. one box was really big and just had 2 hoses coming out of it and the other was fairly large and didnt have anything coming out of it. There was also a third hole on the underside with a J-shaped tube that went no where.... so I replaced them with pvc end caps and now my engine bay looks way cleaner.

I had heard that this mod causes the truck to sound a little better too but didnt expect much, but I love it. Its way more than I thought it would be. Sounds normal under normal strain but if you take it up to high rpms or rev the engine it sounds mean. Now off to take it easy and check my gas milage on this next tank.

I couldnt find any specs, but has anyone done a dyno test after this mod to see if it actually adds any power? Or is it all just in my head from the cool noise it makes now?

Haven't dyno'd it, but the difference it makes in throttle response is significant for the supercharged 3.4L. I am almost certain that the time it takes, (not necessarily lower rpm), to reach max torque is less with the silencer removed. But without a true dyno test, who knows?

Maybe you could find someone in the area with a stock 4runner and go for a comparison test drive.

After I did this mod, I sat in the driveway under the hood opening and closing the throttle and laughing. The response is much faster!

Right... the physics behind the mod will result in better throttle response, not more power. In order to get more power, you'll need more air - and there's nothing in the ISR mod to give that to you.


Wazioc; now do the deckplate mod - that's been dyno'd at a 5-6HP gain.
