ISR Mod

Hello All,

I'm new to register here, but have been lurking around for some time...
I have a 2004 Tacoma V6 and have done the deckplate mod already... I've searched and came up empty handed about the ISR mod being done on a 2004. I've read Dr. Z's tech article on this subject and the update regarding the 2000-2002 years... But my engine seems to be different -- no capped off tube in the rear of the plenum... Has anyone done the ISR mod on an 04? Eventually, I'll get the Airaid MIT tube, but would like to try it with the stock tube. Thanks in advance for the help.

Todd

Just go to Home Depot and get the plumbing caps and/or cleanout plugs that you will need. You may have to pioneer a little, but that's what makes this modding thing fun.

If you have the "piece" that is inserted in the middle of the intake track, then just have a exhaust shop hook you up with some pipe and wrap it in heat deflective tape.

I went and bought all the stuff.. I'll just take my time. My intake tube is one piece, so I'm not going with the steel pipe insert.. just gonna remove the box and I'll have to re-connect the FPR hose back up just like the 97-98 years.. do you think that will work correctly??

Yeah, just make sure everything is sealed correctly and the FPR is hooked up. I highly recommend using a cleanout plug in the main front silencer location. Threaded cleanout plugs are much stronger than end caps and will not warp over time.

Did you see my write-up in the tech section? It should be basically the same for your vehicle, but like I said, be sure to use a cleanout plug in the front location. They come in black too, so you don't have to paint it.

Good luck!

Got all the parts together and completed the Mod last night. The only thing that was different for an 04 3.4L V6 is that the 2" cleanout plug was too big to fit the hole where the resonator box was... 1 1/2" fit just fine, and the "J" box used a 1" cap. I left the third hose connected, as I think it was a PCV type hose. (The one up near the throttle body) Acceleration seems "punchier" and the engine seems to have to work less to maintain the same speed... I also noticed that with the resonator box gone... some ranges of the RPM are both quieter and louder at the same time. (I have the deckplate mod also)

Can I expect that leaving my engine modded this way will in no way cause a lean/rich condition or anything else that would lead to other problems down the line?!

Not that I know of. I have been running ISR mods on various vehicles for years with no problems - other than a lead foot!

Listen for pinging (under load with your foot in it). If you hear anything, just reverse it. Glad you like it.
