iridium plugs and regular plugs for 2002 3.4 liter

hey guys i talked with my toyota dealer (very reputable) and he said that they as in toyota doesnt offer the iridium for 2002 tacomas just the platinum... 2002 are not platinum engines i know so would it be best just to run the regular densos or is iridium better and where to get it? thanks guys

Just plain old Denso dual-prongs should be fine for your stock engine. Iridiums are generally only needed on forced induction applications.

Just go to a parts store and buy denso iridiums.

ok ill just get the regular denso. the only thing is i drive 25k miles a year and i didnt want to change them out every year or so but i guess i dont have a choice haha thanks guys.. besides if i do get iridiums what are they supposed to be gapped at?

I believe the iridiums last longer than standard copper. I felt a noticable difference when switching from regular to iridium.

I would try stock gap (.043), and see how it works.

Supposedly they do last longer. They work great in my engine, I would definitely recommend them if you want to put up the dough.

Yea, i take mine out from time to time, wipe them off and run a wire brush to clean some of the carbon off. They still look great and I've had them in for over a year (only 7K miles though).

i know the iridiums last longer but what about performance.. i have heard that there isnt any difference, if there are some its only neglagable. what do you guys think?? i just dont wantto change the damn things once a year haha.. they worth the $$?

So, so you have the Denso Iridium IK-20's then? Doesn't really seem necssary on a bone stock 22RE...

You won't see any performance improvement unless you have a supercharger. As for changing them, I've heard of stock denso's lasting over 100,000 miles. I changed the plugs in my Fiance's truck a few weeks ago, 110,000 miles with the original plugs (Denso on one side, NGK on the other).

when i did my last tune up the plugs had around 50k and the wires had 137k miles on them it ran perfect but it was time for a tune up

Actually, i have the NGK iridiums, but same difference mas o menos....No it's probably not neccessary BUT, I was running bosch platinums, and they ran like absolute trash. I heard good things about iridiums, so I bought some and the motor ran much much better and was more responsive. Though I doubt any gains would be noticed on a dyno, it feels and runs better and that's good enough for me.

There's only 4 plugs to buy anyway, so it was not that bad on price.
