***UPDATE*** Interest in onboard air group buy?
Okay everyone, as a complement to the new Stauns we are all getting, how about an on-board compressor? The purpose of this post is to gauge how many people would be interested. This is only in the "exploratory phase", so I don't know how many people we would need to actually make it happen. I think we should keep this thread active for about 2 weeks, then I will talk to someone about the number of people we have, then we can figure out prices.
To keep it as simple as possible, I think we should choose between either the QuickAir offerings, seen here, or the Viair offerings, seen here. Note that there are three pages for the 4x4 offerings. My personal preference would be for a Viair, but I will go with whatever the crowd decides.
I think we should try to keep this as simple as possible to make it easiest on the dealer. What if we narrowed it down to either the QuickAir3, Viair 400P, or the 400H or C
. We can throw ExtremeAire into the mix too, how about the .ExtremeAire or the ExtremeAire Portable .
Just post here whether you would be good for it and which compressor you would want and I will tally it all up and forward it to a potential supplier around the 4th. I thought I could make this a poll, but I am not finding that option.

I had a quickair 3 then sold it for extremeair. It's a better compressor...100% cycle duty. 150 PSI. 4cfm output.

How about an ExtremeAire Jr. Outback Portable?
That seems like a very good quality, relatively inexpensive portable unit.
I read somewhere that it has a 50-percent duty cycle.
That's all I need. (And all I can afford.)

Ok, I have a ?
Will these work with say... arb lockers? Whats the difference? Is the main function for pumping tires back up and if your lucky power power tools? I was thinking, if i'm going to get a compressor why not get the arb one as I hope to have Lockers down the line. Is the ARB just really small or something?

Air lockers can be activated with any air system, they will all hook up to them the same. I intentionally left the ARB off because, from what I have seen, I have not been too impressed with it speed in filling tires. I really hate spending 30 minutes at the trail head getting my tires filled back up.

While at CO4RJ I was able to see Darren's ExtremeAire in action. I was really impressed. I want to say it took about 5 minutes (maybe less) to fill one of my 285/75 BFG A/T's to 33 PSI (from ~15 PSI). He has a few pics of the system here.
There was no additional tank required for the ExtremeAir (at least the one Darren has). He attached the power cables to the battery and started filling tires. Darren's pictures show the set-up in use. Everything was kept in the blue box with the compressor.
BTW, he did buy it from Mike at Extreme Offroad.

I just now added the bottom picture on my page Lance had linked. That should help give an idea of scale and how it fits better. Of course, not everyone would store it there. I like it there as it won't slide around.
The reason I went with a compressor as opposed to a Power Tank, is that it is one less thing you have to anchor down, a little more compact, and the fact you don't have to worry about refilling it. Of course, Power Tanks have their plusses as well, but this unit is great for my uses. I've used it a BUNCH already in the 3 months that I've had it.
Initially, I was considering the QuickAir2 or 3 portables, but settled on this one. The continuous duty and the slightly faster filling rate compared to the QuickAir3 were ultimately the reasons I came to my decision. Yes, it is a few more dollars than the others, but I figure over the long haul, I will appreciate it more and definitely get my use out of it. Certainly, if you're able to get a group buy discount on one, the decision is a little easier as well I would think.
As for needing a tank for lockers, that's not the case. It doesn't take much to operate those. I know Christo Slee uses the ExtremeAire hard mount for his ARB's. When I go that route, I'll just get the ARB compressor as space is at a premium under the hood for a bigger compressor, otherwise I may very well would have done this in a hard mount.

Just to throw another wrench into the works...Currie has a nice looking unit, , which is the setup that Roger Brown uses and writes up on his site.
