interchangable tranny

I've been looking into doing a engine swap. I was wondering if anyone knows if the V6 5spd trannies (R150F) is the same size, and output spline count and mate up to my transfer case, as my 22re 5spd (W56). So that I can change engines without having to mess with my driveshafts, all my shifters go to the same place.

In a word, No. The V6 tranny output is 23-spline, W56 trannies are 21-spline. You can get a 23-spline input gear from Marlin for $165 but then you have a difference in bolt pattern to deal with. You'd be in luck because Marlin has the appropriate adapter for that as well. So, with the adapter and new input gear, you'd be able to bolt a gear-driven t-case up to your V6 tranny. Why not just get the matching transfer to go with your tranny?

toy283, I appreciate all your advice.... looks like this swap can get pretty expensive but would be worth it

It would also be the only way to go duals later if that's something you might be interested in.

Also, upon re-reading your original post. Swapping in a R150 tranny in place of a W56 will move the shifters forward a little. They are not in the same location.

You can only do dual cases with gear-driven 4-cylinder cases. But, if you go 23-spline (which is a must behind a R150 tranny) they are stronger than the V6 chain driven case.
