Intake Mods

Hey guys,
Im new here and just thought i'd ask a couple questions concerning some intake modifications on my recently purchased '96 4Runner SR5.

Ive done some researching through the forum and found many helpful posts, but i have a couple questions more specific to my needs.

First off - I've read up on the deckplate mod and have decided it would probly be a worthwhile modification to do. So my question is, since i barely ever go offroad, (if anything, just some back-woods 4X4 trails - no mud or water), would not installing the deckplate part that is recomended with this mod be OK? The reason i say this is there aren't really any marinas nearby and it would be a hassle to try and get ahold of the part, plus i cant think of any reason why i'd ever need to plug the whole up again?

Secondly, if i do go with this modification, would you guys reccomend a K&N Air Filter or Amsoil Air filter to accommodate the setup?

Any help would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

Just order the part online. Go with a 4" or 5" in black. Sailnet.com has them, as do others. Beckson is the primary manufacturer. Amsoil is the filter of choice around these parts. Since you will not be doing any off-roading, you could go with K&N, but they have a greater tendancy to be over-oiled and foul up the MAFS. You can also over-oil an Amsoil, but it seems to be a bit harder to do.

If you don't want to deal with all that cutting, etc., do the elbow removal mod. You can also do the ISR mod and the TB gasket mod (check my sig) to finish off your complete intake mod, all for under $50. That's the Amsoil filter, elbow mod, ISR mod, and TB gasket.

So, I say go with the deckplate mod because it sounds better at WOT. Then, get an Amsoil filter. Do that to start, then go from there. Good luck!

Thanks a bunch for the help, would this deckplate do the trick?

http://www.sailnet.com/store/item.cfm?pid=15392

And would the only advantage of the 5" instead of a 4" deckplate be that more air can be sucked in basicly?

Basically. But no one has proven that scientifically.

I actually have a 6" deckplate, but the rim overlaps the square box.

That deckplate looks good.

Alright, thanks.

(sorry) One other thing, where would be a good online store to purchase the Amsoil air filter, and if i already have a can of K&N air filter oil, can that be used on the amsoil filter without any problems?

You can contact a couple guys here on Yotatech. Bob_98SR5 or Gadget are both dealers of Amsoil products I believe.

Personally, I would not use K&N oil on my Amsoil filter. Besides, you clean them differently and the oil isn't too expensive for the Amsoil.
