You need a set pin punch. ACtually any punch will work. If I remember correct you shouldn't have to remove the whole set pin. I also believe the carrier that the set pin is in has a small flap of metal covering the setpin on one side, maybe both. Look for that and pry it up. I did and ended up breaking it clean off. I then had to mushroom the carrier on re-installation to prevent the setpin from coming out again. Does this make any sense? Anyways if your having trouble getting the setpins out make sure you try to go the other way with them. I really think they only come out one way, I figured that out after beeting the shi*t out of them. Good luck.

punch out the little pin
grind out the dented in part at the big end of the hole a little bit.
Use a punch to push the little pin out the hole. Now you can remove the ring gear if you haven't done so already and slip the big cross pin out of there. It sounds like you are working on a 4cyl diff and putting in a lockright or ez locker. Last edited by leiniesred : 08-05-2005 at 12:10 PM. Reason: clarity |
