Installed LPD 4454 Trans Cooler *PICS*

In preparation for installing the TuRD SC and URD fuel goodies I ordered one of these to help keep my trans cool. I just installed it this weekend. In the next month or so I'll be sending IPT my valve body to be modified as well.

This is how I mounted the cooler:

Bottom mounts:

Just some information. I found in my case (00 T4R 5VZ) the OE trans cooler that is part of the radiator accepts the fluid from the trans on the passenger side of the vehicle and returns it on the driver’s side. After going through the OE cooler my lines originally went around the bottom side of the radiator and up to the cooler. I later realized after getting done that the skid plate wouldn't reinstall and the lines might be easily damaged while off roading :

So I changed the lines to go through where the AC condenser lines run. It was necessary to remove the headlight in order to get my large hands into that small space to zip tie things up. I wrapped the 3/8 hose with some larger hose that I picked up from Home Depot to protect it: This won't negatively affect the AC will it?

You can hardly see the lines in this pic. You can also see my 18" Perma cool fan that I installed a couple months ago.

This is what it looks like with the grill reinstalled. (I know she is VERY dirty and will be getting a bath and clay bar job + wax soon):

Through lots of searching this I how I thought it should be done.

Let me know what you think please

Fluid Level

Well I lost only a little bit of fluid during the installation. I had read the cooler itself uses anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart of ATF itself. I added about 3/4 of a quart and then checked again after I drove about 45 miles at ~80mph or so. I thought that would get the fluid nice and warm. I guess this little cooler does a stellar job because when I checked it again I assumed it should be the the Hot range on the dip stick. It was a little over the cool marks. I added some more ATF to bring it into spec. Rechecked it this morning after sitting all night and it was at the same level Do I need to pull some fluid out now??

Nice install. I have the Tru-Cool LPD 1678...The big one. In the winter I'm lucky if the gauge hits 110*. During hard wheeling or towing in 95+ heat it may hit 210 but it drops rapidly when idling or gets put on the freeway where the TC can lock up. During summer cruising it's around 140-160.
