What tha ##%! Got a 2.5" Daystar spacer lift done and drove the truck to the dealer to pick up a ball joint only to come home to find grease everywhere, both boots have torn on the CV joints at the differential!!!! Anyone experienced this?

It might be a combination of already worn out/ aged boots and the increased angle from the lift. Just my thoughts. Search around and see if its happend before and possible solutions.

I've been searching and it's not uncommon, but now just a huge PITA!!! Thought I was done working on this thing now it's just begun. Read you can get high angle boots and even spend $2K on performance axles..Man this simple lift is turning into a night mare..

I think you will be fine with just replacing the boots. It probably needed to get done anyways. Try that and see how we'll it works.

When I test drove it I did notice at 50mph I got a vibration in the front that I did not have before?? Felt it in the wheel. Wonder if this is what caused the boots to go?
Took another peak, right side boots just slipped off. Can't see where all the grease is coming from the drivers side? Will investigate and tear into it tomorrow. The shimmy at 50 has me worried, but I did loosed the caster adjuster bolts so I'm going to say it's an alignment issue until I can get it aligned.

2.5 inch lift puts a lot of stress on cv axles. Look into getting a differential drop kit. Others have just used longer bolts and washers to bring the diff down. I would bet the vibration is caused completely by the cv's going bad

Yep, need a diff drop to keep the CV in proper plane.

Seen a lot of trucks with your exact situation, which is one reason I hate daystar and revtek. They say nowhere in their instructions the need for a diff drop, so when I, the technician, come up to tell you you need both axles rebooted/replaced because you went cheap with daystar, I'm the .

No offense to you. Just do a little research, and get yourself a diff drop.

And if you ever do get sick of your daystar, call up Toytec. Their the only lift we recommend and install at my dealership.

I checked Toytec and see they sell a simmilar spacer kit but with OME coils. What is the difference? I'm totally a newb when it comes to all this lift stuff and doing all the work mself. Is there a better diff drop kit that the other? Guess I go with Sanora Steel?

We keep the Toytec diff drop kits in stock for people in your exact situation. I'd say I do 1-2 reboots a week from people who installed a front lift without a diff drop.

Just got thru cleaning up the huge mess of grease and it appears neither boot tore from just looking from under? Left side boot just came off due to a-holes at NTB who used zip ties to put it on years ago, that's a whole other story. The right side boot is still on, no tears from what I can see, but some how lost a bunch of grease?
When I turn the wheel I hear the CV joints rubbing on the boots. Going to put the diff drop on then pull both axles to inspect CV joints then put'r back together and see how she acts.

If it makes you feel better, even with the diff drop kit, my truck just tore boots on both sides within a day of installing the lift.

me? I don't believe in re-booting after a big tear like these have. I'm driving around on them still, waiting until a) I drive through a tsunami and wash all the grease out, b) forget that there's a problem and take it through a massive underbody wash at the car wash, or c) it sounds like spoons in a blender when I go around a corner. I'll get new half shafts and be done with it.

i had the issue where my cv boots broke too. the diff drop for toytec fixed my problem.. it;s prob been around 40,000 since i put on the axles and the diff drop and have had no further issues

Like everyone else said, get a diff drop and see what happens, I bet you won't be tearing any more boots and your vibration will probably go away.

diff drop installed, alingnment done and still high speed vibration.
It's at the shop now where alignment was done because the steering wheel was out of wack. Told them to drive it and give best shot at diagnosing what's causing the vibrations.
I've read it could be the drive shaft out of alignment.
