Okay, I have a squeeking noise coming from my 4runner. I cant track down where its coming from but someone told me its probably my input shaft bearing or the end bearing in the cluster gear? Sometimes I notice that when I press the clutch in, the squeek stops, but other than that its always squeeking. Has anybody ever ran into this problem with their 4runner. Its a 95'. Im worried that this might screw up my transmission. Any advice on what to do would be great. Thanks

Sounds more like the throwout bearing to me. When the clutch is out, the bearing is unloaded and essentially freewheeling. When you push in the clutch it becomes loaded and it's characteristics change. The input bearing may see some changes in loading during clutch operation as well, but less dramatic. If it were me, I would pull the transmissions and replace both, the input bearing is an easy swap once the tranny is out. Also, if it were me, I'd swap out the clutch as long as I'm in there.


On a side note, whereabouts in Alameda are you? I used to be stationed there from '88-'92

Well, I wish that was a job that I knew how to do myself. So Im guessing my transmission is fine, maybe think about replacing the bearings? Ill look into the clutch/throw-out bearing as well. Thanks a lot.

Im stationed on Coast Guard Island. Been here in alameda since 2001. Were you navy or CG?

Navy. Lots of good times in many of the little bars scattered all over that place I was always impressed with Alameda because it had a very "small town" feel to it even surrounded by Oakland and others. Not like most suburbs that try to be big cities on their own.

I agree about the T/O bearing. One went out on my mustang and it had the exact same symptoms.

Yeah, alameda is a pretty nice town. I actually live in Berkeley, there are some good bars and what not up there too. Im having some good times in my hitch too.

So the throwout bearing it is i guess. Hopefully that eliminates the noise.
