inoperative clutch - PLEASE HELP!

Well my 10 minute excursion through some mud yesterday ended up being a 5 hour disaster with my rig embedded in soup, not to mention the $200 fee it cost me to actually find someone with something big enough to actually get me out! But i finally got out...but here's my problem.

When i first when i got outof the mud i couldn't get OUT of gear...so i reefed on er while starting (because it wouldn't start...since i was in gear and the clutch was OBVIOUSLY not engaging) and i finally got out of gear. Tried to drive home but my clutch was just barely grabbing...resulting in my doing about 3km/hr down a busy street...so i pulled over. Luckily some guy in a 4runner passing by down the highway came back and gave me a tow to a parking spot.

So here's my current problem. When i came back this morning to hopefully limp my poor truck home i found that my pedal wasn't doing anything, it was like it was permanately engaged...i can easily change gears but i can pull the clutch right out while in gear, without moving an inch. I've had problems with my [clutch/tranny?!] before because i couldn't get it into first without some serious reefing.

PLEASE help me out here...my truck is sitting down by the docks and i need to know what i'm looking at here.

So is the clutch pedal able to go all the way to the floor with little or no assistance?

If yes, then you have most likely lost slave cyl operation for one reason or another. Can you see under there, or is it covered in mud?

Yea, its very little resistance to the floor.

Smells like burnt clutch as well...still...

well i pulled out the slave cylinder and replaced it (bled the lines..blah blah) not really believing that it was the problem but really hoping cause it would have saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars....

to no avail. exactly the same as before...clutch won't disengage.

Well shoot, could the fork have bent enough to render it useless?

turns out i burned the clutch right out. replaced it with a centerforce dual friction clutch and new TO and pilot bearings...new oil blah blah...

Drives fine now except it still wont go into first gear...unless i put it in...lift the clutch and let it grind and quickly throw down the clutch again then jam it it...painful to say the least.
needless to say i resort to starting in first which is SO painful since i JUST put in a new clutch and i dont want to burn it out. But i dont know how to fix this problem without a tranny rebuild/replace.

suggestions?

that situation actually sounds liek a bad pilot bearing or the synchros in the tranny are toast! how deep was this mud? is it possible it got inside hte tranny and did some damage... you changed the oil? gear oil in the tranny? or something else?
