Important info on the SR5 tach cluster swap...

I thought I'd share some important info to those who are thinking or have already done the SR5 tach cluster swap on a 1st-gen 4'runner or '84-'88 PU.

It seems Toyota put two slightly different fuel-senders in their trucks during those years. The fuel-sender coils inside the gas tank have two slightly different resistance values depending on if it's a carburator or fuel-injected engine.

I guess there's one type of fuel-sender for the 22R-E/3.0 V6 and one type for the 22R. The guy I spoke to repairs Toyota trucks at this wrecking yard/repair shop where I purchased my cluster from. He told me that swapping a SR5 tach cluster from a fuel-injected engine over to an original carb'ed motor can experience the kind of "inaccurate" fuel-gauge level problems I was experiencing when my gauge got low. I'm not sure if this is also true for the 2nd gen 4'runners and '89-'95 PU's. However, I believe the last year for the carb'ed 22r motor was around '89 or so.

If you have a carb'ed 22r PU and/or 4'Runner from '84-'88 and you want to put a SR5 tach cluster in, be advised that you may also need to get the fuel-sender if the tach cluster came out of a fuel-injected truck.

Is there another type of fuel sender for the 22RE-T ? I swapped my 86 22RE and tranny over to a 87 previously turbo, automatic body... About to put my guages in but the connectors are totally different! Reason I ask is my old truck only has 5 wires running from the fuel tank, the new previously turbo truck has 6 wires!! Thanks!
