I recently got my 98 4runner SR5 3.4L model and I have a few questions.
After my 4runner warms up, it idles at 600RPM. Is that normal idling??

Is the suspension and shocks on the 4runner suppose to give you a smooth ride?? I could feel every bump, pothole at any speed, is this normal?
Sometimes if I hit a medium size bump or pothole, my vehicle feels like its moving left or right. Is this also normal?? How can I tell if my suspension is gone or not working right??

Your idle is computer controlled, so it is very rare that the 5VZ has idle problems. However, it might be a good time to do a TB cleaning just to be sure its in good shape.

Push down on the front or rear bumper, then release suddenly, does the body "bob" up and down? If so, your shocks might be shot. If it rebounds quickly and stays put, you have ok shocks.

As for moving left or right if you hit a pothole, well I can't say if that is "normal" because it would be unsafe or impossible to say for sure over the net. With a solid rear axle, you will get a slight direction change if you hit a bump or go on a washboard dirt road. That's just the nature of a SA. The most important thing is that you track straight when driving down the road and under braking with your hands safely off the wheel. Let us know.

Its normal for it to idle at 600rpm when your not in gear for example, stoppin on a red light.
