Ideal AFR #'s for a supercharged 3.4 L Runner

I have at last installed my wideband to take air fuel ratio readings. I am running 14.7:1 normally and under full boost I am running as low as 12.9:1.

I have tuned my '89 Supra to an AFR of 12:1 at 16 psi boost. Is 12:1 the target value for the Runner? I have fuel mods prepared - fuel pump and injectors. Just not sure how much of a difference they will make. I know that I may need to install some fuel management electronics as well.

Any comments from those with similar setups would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vic

i believe it is between 12.7:1-12.9:1

your numbers look right in line with what I have. Gadget tuned my truck, so I know it is dialed in.

Thanks for the feedback FilthyRich. I suppose that you have all the fuel mods done as well. Did you run the truck with the supercharger only at first, then have the fuel mods done? If so, how much of a difference did the fuel upgrade make.

If I am running the same AFR's as you, should I even bother with the injectors and fuel pump?

Thanks

Vic

I would recommend the fuel pump and injectors. The motor wants more fuel with the s/c. You might as well give it what it wants, if no what's the point??

I ran the s/c for about 10 days before doing the URD kit. It made a huge difference. Once i got the wideband, Gadget was able to tune the truck. That made all the difference. He unlucked something and it is a beast.

Thanks for the info. I will try to install the fuel pump this weekend and the injectors son thereafter. Gadget's site ihas been a great resource and URDUSA has great products and super service for anyone that needs to upgrade their truck's performance with a supercharger kit.

I'll post results when I complete the install.

Those A/F #'s are right on point as they are.
The pump might be done just for insuance reasons.
For all motor setups you want around 13.o's or 13.5. under full throttle
Being your'e under boost keep it from 12.0 to 12.7 or so under full throttle.
You could lean it out alittle for more power but then you start eating into your safty margin.

C-YA!!
How many cc's are the stock injectors and how many lbs. of boost are you running?

When you are at WOT ( Wide Open Throttle)-- I would target your AFR to the lower 12's-- 12.1 is ideal-- you should have optimal horsepower at that reading... I had my 4Runner dynoed before installing the URD fuel upgrade and it was running way too lean at about 13 -16 AFR variable and only getting 179RWHP-- after installing the fuel mods and a proper tune I now get 230RWHP -- the truck runs much stronger and more responsive... I have my AFR at full boost set between 11.9 to 12.3--your 14.7 AFR readiing is correct when not in boost or WOT the ECU is preset to keep the AFR at this level...

When you install your injectors and other fuel mods-- you will need to tune and dial in your AFR-- Gadget's guide-U-tune is a great reference in doing this-- I've learned to do it myself and tune other trucks as well--- here is the link for the guide:

Thanks for all of the advice. I am running stock boost (whatever that is) and I believe the injectors are around 240cc.

I'll report any findings once the mods are in place. Looking forward to a bit more power

I guess I am not going to get more power from my truck then. We have just about the same mods, and it just seems like it should have more, but doesn't.
$6,000 + premium fuel for ~50 HP

Ahhh well, money is there to be spent. I'm lucky it grows on trees.
