I want 35's on my 4runner....the parts list is cyclic.
More parts require more parts, which in turn, require more parts.....the modification cycle never ends!
I've searched and searched, and I never seem to come up with any definitive forumula. Hopefully you all can help tell me if my parts list is in order to go to 315's.
I have the Toytec/OME 3" suspension lift, and I'm running 305's right now. I had to trim the front bumper a little so that I could turn, but that wasn't a big deal at all.
From what I've read, I'll need a 1" body lift, I'll need to do something about my upper control arms (probably buy the cut Sonoran Steel ones). I'm already running 16" LC rims, which have 4.5" backspacing.
Is that it? Is that all I need? Seems too easy.
1" BL
SS UCA's
Tires
What about regearing? Will I be able to regear to 4.88 or something and still keep my factory rear locker? I'll do the 35's first and see how miserable I am. I can live with a lack of power for a short while.

I plan to go with a 1" BL, and a 2.5" OME suspension lift to get the look you have. I think that amount of lift looks great on the T4R. However, I see you mentioned UCAs and having to do something with them. I haven't seen anything on that yet, is there interferrence or binding? I'd like to know before I start my lift.
Thanks

The A-arms are shaved to clear the wider tires.
315's aren't all that much wider than the 305's, but they are, since the 75% aspect ratio of 315 is higher than 305! You'll want to get the arms, or go ahead and buy bolt on wheel adapters (spacers). I have run the All-pro wheel spacers w/o issues. However, the shaved A-arms wouldn't be a bad idea, just a lot more work.
I think every truck is different. You'll have to make your own visual prediction to think if the 1" BL will be able to clear that size tire. Trimming will most likely need to be done on the wheel wells, but, just at the corners.
For example, Steve at sonoransteel.com was running 35's with a 1-2" suspension lift and 1" body lift, but, he did do enough trimming to fit that.
Lastly, I didn't notice much power loss going from 33's to 35's. There was much more from going to 31's to 33's, and the steel wheels didn't help. I have 4.30 gearing, which makes it tolerable. I do not plan on regearing anytime soon.

Which UCAs are being used then? I don't plan to run huge tires nor wheel hard at all, this is my DD but I would like to be able to go places when I need to.
At full extension, one side (I can't remember which side) rubs the inside of the tire sidewall on the upper control arm. Its not enough of a big deal for me to go out and do something about it yet, but its something that will need to be addressed if/when I upgrade my tire size.

As you can see, they're just stock upper A-arms, which are cut strategically to increase clearance for wider tires. It allows you to keep all the other factory components that you would have to change if you went with an aftermarket set.
Keep in mind, when I rub, its just a very tiny bit, as my suspension isn't fully flexed often at all (maybe once or twice EVER). My 4runner is my DD also.

In the next couple weeks I will be running 315's with a 2.5" suspension lift and no body lift. Will be taking about an inch out of the fenders. I just gotta find some cheap gears first

You know i really like your truck there. I have been debating going from my stock 31's to anything bigger for fear of the power loss. How bad is the power loss to say 32's or 33's max. no idea what my gears are (Keep meaning to find out but never get around to it.) whatever comes with the auto tranny on 2000 limiteds.
How much lift is on that picture above? How much trimming? That is almost exactly what iwant to do with mine as far as lift and tires go.

Have you test fitted the 315's yet? How much trimming is required?

Funny, I thought the power loss going to 33's was *way* too noticeable... actually annoying. Enough so that I coughed up the dough to re-gear to 4.88's. If I had realized that before I might have not gone with bigger tires.

Hmmm, opinions, opinions. Which to belive.
All i know is that right now without my cargobox and about 200lbs of tool, subs and other junk it is already slow, i mean will still hit the governer but it takes its purtty little time getting there.
I am one of those guys that has to be first away from a light, not racing first but just "looks like it was a piece of cake i am way a head* away from the light type starts. I will be SC my truck at some point which should help if i was to go bigger but want to still have some performance gains...
/End hijack

I am running 315" but I have no body lift, all suspension. If i were to do it again I would still not do a body lift to hit 315's. I would stick with the 255 or the 285, but thats just cause i run a lot of different trails, a lot....... i S/C mine before i did the 35's i didn't notice very much that i lost power when i had 285's either
