I think I broke a gear in the front diff
Ok so I was out doing some rocks whit a couple of buddies and my buddy broke his front axel on his 99 DISCO 2 anyway after 45min of getting him unstuck, I, Like a retard, Say "The Yota can do that." anyway, I was almost to the top, same place as him, when I hear a snap, grind, pop..... well I made it to the top and then drove down. Now every time I try to engage 4wd it feels as though the front end has to pop in.. I believe it is a gear, the cv's are fine.
Well my question is this..... I have the stock 4.10 gears. it is supercharged and I just purchased the URD 7th injector kit. anyway should I regear and go 4.88? 5.29? or stay stock? also Lets say hypothetically I can convince the wife to let me do a SAS I would want to stick with coilovers as I went through huge ammounts of pain to keep the coils in the rear with the custom 3 link. Any and all Input is welcome.... also I think about getting the ARB front locker to match the rear on I have....

Id imagine you'd have to do a lot of fabbing to get a new-style diff in there. You'd probably just be better off doing a SAS at that point.
Usually youre CV's go first before your ring and pinion. You sure the tripod joints aren't shattered?
If its your gears, and you have the money, might as well regear since your running 35's.

I'd say that with your size of tires you should re-gear at least to 456's. if not 488's. 529's my be overkill and remember that the lower gears you have, the weaker they are. Also If you do re-gear your going to have more torque available and breakage will be all the more a concern. In short, SAS!! Or stick to tamer tails.........nah!!

I know SAS is the way to go, but I need to go cheap right now thanks to the wife wanting me to stop spending on my truck and other hobbies. anyway easier trails .... cant do it, the wife told me "no more rocks"... yeah right.. anyway what do you mean by tripod joints? I'm unfamiliar with that term. I haven't had the diff open yet, I just know that 4wd doesn't want to go with out slamming and bumping when i put it in.
and as far as the pics, I will post some when I figure out how to do lot of pics without photo shopping the file size way way down.

ninja. That sucks about the gears. Well, at least now you could just go ahead and get some taller gears! 4.88's if you got the 3.4L. Even the guys with SAS and 37's+ run 4.88's.
As for the pics... Sign up for photobucket.com and I'm pretty sure they re-size them down to 600x800 for you. Then, you can easily copy the code they give you right under the pic, and put it right into your message body here.
